The Dave Grossman Quartet presents an evening of quirky jazz compositions, re-imagined pop songs, and materials from the Great American Song Book. Lead by Jazz Guitarist and composer, Dave Grossman, the quartet performs jazz that’s edgy yet familiar. The Quartet features: Dave Grossman (guitar/vocals), Bob Himmelburger (keyboard), Rick Crane (bass), and Dave Larson (drums). Prominent jazz painter Easton Davy will paint during the performance and his art will be available for purchase after the show in a post-performance artist reception. Part of the Fall Jazz and Beyond series.
Here is a fun way to create a 3 dimensional shape out of wool: in this class students will be felting over an inflatable ball to make a vessel or a bowl. We will explore different ways to manipulate the surface before and after felting. Materials used: dyed, carded wool and silk fibers. Absolutely no knitting is involved and no previous felting experience is necessary. Expect a bit of physical work while making felt.
Materials will be supplied by the instructor at an additional cost of $15 per person. Please bring a plastic container, a bar of soap and 2 old towels to class.
This is a monitored, non-instructional workshop in which artists can work at their own pace in the medium of their selection (no turpentine-based oil paints, please) from a live model in short and sustained poses. Chairs and a limited number of easels are available. Students must provide their own materials. Come as often as you like throughout the year. REGISTRATION IS NOT REQUIRED —just drop in and pay at the door ($12/$10 ACP members). View more information or register.
Have you seen those fabulous felted silk scarves in boutiques? Felting authority Piroska Toth and Master Dyer Lian Sawires have paired up to create a special 2-session workshop just for you. Learn about silk dyeing, patterning, color and visual texture while using shibori techniques to create and dye two beautiful large scarves. Then in week #2 you will felt one of your silks into a gorgeous creation. Participants will use the softest merino wool, additional silk fibers and soapy water to roll all this into a one-of-a-kind “nuno” scarf. Instruction will be given as to how to manipulate color and texture, techniques for shaping and final finishing touches. No previous experience is necessary but expect a bit of physical work while making felt. All materials included.
