The Elves, the Snowman and the Reindeer!
Bring the splendor of children’s literature and the joy of art together for the holidays…! Let’s explore the majestic works of The Brothers Grimm’s “The Elves and the Shoemaker”, Raymond Briggs’s “The Snowman” and Robert L. May’s “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” for a fun-filled Saturday! Have fun with mixed media such as soft pastels, acrylic paints, markers and more! Create your own treasure, meet new friends and celebrate your love of art! Please bring and/or wear an artist smock/ painting shirt.
Children must be attending preschool or primary school.
Materials included. View more information or register.

Illuminated Letters

- $60

Medieval scribes would marvel at today’s materials for painting and gilding, but they would be right at home with most of the techniques still practiced. Choose an “exemplar” (a model) from a variety of decorative capitals from the Celtic, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and later periods – Latin or Hebrew. Then trace it or copy it, modify it, or if you’re feeling adventurous, you may want to design your own. Techniques for inking, building up rich layers of opaque watercolor, and for applying gold leaf are demonstrated. The end result will be one or more frame-able, illuminated initials, approximately 5″x5″ in size that would make a perfect gift.
Art experience helpful but not required.
Please bring a sack lunch and $5 to purchase gold leaf.
