HDR, Panorama and B&W

- $125

HDR (High Dynamic Range), Panorama and Black & White
This new 1-day workshop will start with panorama photography, moving into HDR and B&W, covering all aspects of the three, including shooting and processing Raw image files. Some of the shooting techniques involved with Pano and HDR are very similar and work well together. When it comes to capturing that great B&W image, just switching the camera to its B&W setting is the worst way to go about it. In the B&W section students will focus on several Photoshop and Lightroom techniques for changing color to B&W that will bring out the fine details and subtle nuances B&W images offer.

Panorama photography allows the photographer to shoot a scene much wider then a normal wide angle lens can record and often times with much less distortion. These panoramas can encompass up to a full 360 degree circle. In this section we’ll cover camera setup, how to shoot overlapping images and processing them using Photoshop’s pano conversion (aka stitching)

HDR techniques allows the photographer to shoot the full dynamic range of a scene, revealing details in the darkest shadows as well as the brightest highlights. This is achieved by combining a group of exposures, covering the full tonal range of the scene and then merging them into one high definition image file. This section covers HDR camera set-up, exposure bracketing, image alignment and image merging software, as found in Photoshop’s CS 6 and CC, as well as Photomatix HDR Pro software.

Participants in this workshop should have a basic knowledge of photography, their camera and the fundamentals of at least one of the software programs. A tripod is recommended, but not a must and two will be available for use that day.
Students who take classes in the Digital Media Lab have the opportunity to use Apple Macs along with Adobe Creative Suite software. This includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, and Dreamweaver along with Apple graphics software. The Instructor is a working professional who can guide you through the world of New Media. Registration fee includes scheduled use of the Digital Imaging Studio (unlimited usage during the term on a reservation basis). View more information or register.
