Repurposed Books:Watershed

- $100

Garden inspired books! Make your own personal book using botanicals gathered during a brief Naturalist-guided hike on the grounds of Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed. Future and current book artists will learn techniques in transforming an old book into a journal or art form. Actual plant fibers, blossoms and leaves will be used in printmaking, paste paper and collage techniques. Beginning students will transform a book with strong cardboard pages into a beautiful work of art completely their own. Experienced students will exercise and develop techniques to alter any book of their choice. All students will be guided to include interesting surprises in their books such as hidden doors and pop ups. And they will learn how to permanently transfer images or text into their books. Book artists have used their finished books for gifts, journals, special occasion greetings, poem books, and or as finished fine art. Students should bring small and medium sponge brushes, small cutting mat, exacto knife, utility knife, metal ruler with cork back, pencil, eraser, sharpener and dried and pressed botanicals if they have them.
