Textiles Using Stones: GFS- $130
Experiment creating texture and visual interest in fabric using rocks, stones, and minerals as resists in silkdyeing and printing on fabric. After exploring stone sculptures in the exhibition Moments of Matter for inspiration, participants will create three scarves and a small fabric painting. Join Master silk artist Lian Sawires in a unique exploration of hand-dyeing and printing techniques including stamping, rolling, and streaking, as well as a form of “stone shibori”. Stones can be inked and used for mark-making, or tied into cloth to create organic shapes and ghost images. The motifs of stones in design, exploration of rough and smooth and joining rocks and fabric will also be engaged using binding, drawing with resist materials and fabric inks. Participants may bring their own stones to the workshop or use those provided. Materials fee of $35.00 payable directly to the instructor.
