DESCRIPTION:Tales from the Disenchanted ForestBy Artists: Elizabeth Jordan & Terri FraserOn view: May 2 – 30Opening: Sat\, May 9 | 3-5pm \n\nJoint Artist Statement: \nArtists Terri Fraser and Elizabeth Jordan create visually distinct sculptural work grounded in a shared commitment to process\, material\, and the layered narratives that emerge through making. Frasers work moves toward an ethereal\, immersive interpretation of the natural world\, shaped by a practice rooted in the woods\, while Jordans is informed by an urban environment and grounded in the presence of individual animal forms. Both practices are rich in detail and guided by an attention to how systems hold—and fail—within the environment. Responding to the ongoing degradation of the natural world\, their work reflects a deep awareness of the reciprocal relationship between flora and fauna\, offering an experience that is both attentive and quietly unsettling. \nFraser constructs an immersive forest through layered materials drawn from the natural world and the remnants of human use. These elements are woven\, knotted\, and coiled into shifting forms that hold a restrained presence while remaining open\, skeletal\, and in flux. The installation unfolds through clusters\, clearings\, and suspended canopies\, creating shifting pathways that move around and through the work. Rather than replicating nature\, the forms register its strain—caught between growth and collapse\, structure and fragility—suggesting an ecosystem no longer in balance. \nJordan’s creatures emerge through a layered and material-driven process\, inhabiting a space between beauty and unease that reflects the shifting relationship between humans and animals. At times strange and not fully identifiable\, they communicate through gesture\, posture\, and surface—where cuts\, seams\, and scars hold traces of their making. Their presence suggests both memory and displacement\, as if once of the forest yet now shaped by a human world. In their stillness and outward gaze\, they hold a tension between what has been altered and what endures. \nThe juxtaposition of these two perspectives creates a space shaped by uncertainty\, beauty\, and quiet tension. Working from different relationships to the natural world\, Fraser and Jordan bring their practices into proximity\, where their differences generate a subtle but persistent dialogue. Within this exchange\, an intangible connection emerges—held in the vibration between past\, present\, and what might still be possible. The Disenchanted Forest does not resolve this tension\, but allows it to remain.

SUMMARY:Sounds of Color
DESCRIPTION:Sounds of ColorBy artist AidaOn view: May 2 – 30Opening: Sat\, May 9 | 3-5pm\nArtist Statement:When we muse on the beauty of art\, we associate it with the oculus of the soul\, the eye\, as the periscope to the soul. It is a perceived reality. Color goes beyond what the eye can see. It connects directly to what the soul sees. When the soul sees\, it deeply feels the beauty before it. Maybe no two people see or feel color the same way? Color is a fantasy of communication between the eye and the soul. Color works like rhythm and wavelength\, it plays with our understanding of lumen and refraction of light. It can be simultaneously harmonious and discordant\, like green against red\, yellow beside violet. Like a musical composition it may blend without confrontation. It changes desire and emotion. Unlike music\, visual color must permeate the soul\, maybe in a slower way. We associate color with memory and emotion. I work mindfully with saturated color boldness to reveal another journey of modern color application. \nMuch of my inspiration came about through meditation and spiritual connections to the sounds of wildlife\, water and musical rhythms. In 2025\, I participated in an artist residency in Beaumont de Pertuis\, Luberon\, where I created works en plein air. They are studies of light and color en Provence. \nArtist Bio:Cuban born\, Aida immigrated to the US in 1968 at the age of three. She grew up in Elizabeth\, NJ\, where her family settled. From a young age\, Aida loved to draw and began to paint as an undergraduate while attending Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts. She flourished in the art school environment and was considered a true “painter’s painter” by her peers\, receiving a BFA degree in 1990. \nThroughout her career\, Aida’s work has been exhibited in numerous regional\, national and international juried shows throughout the US and the Tri-State area of NY\, NJ and PA. She was recently selected for and exhibited at a juried National Works on Paper 2024 exhibition held at Long Beach Island Foundation of Art and Science\, as well as the 47th International Water media Exhibition at WASH-H in Houston\, Texas\, where she received a Merit Award. Aida has given workshops and demos for the Garden State Watercolor Society and Warren County Arts\, NJ\, and has taught classes and given workshops at AOY Art Center\, in Yardley\, PA. Aida paints in her home studio in High Bridge\, NJ\, where she has lived with her husband since 1997\, having raised two daughters. www.aidawatercolors.com

DESCRIPTION:Color as Composition\nBy Phoebe Wiley\nOn view: May 2 – 30\nOpening: Sat\, May 9 | 3-5pm\n\nExhibition statement:\nStudies in how juxtaposed colors relate\, contrast to one another to come forward\, recede\, move around\, create rhythm emotion\, intensity\, and form. \nAbout the artist:\nI was overwhelmed this morning by the RED dahlias in my garden. The story of my life! Since childhood the observation of color in nature has overtaken my senses and compelled me to think\nabout it and recreate it. This intensity of feeling has led me to a very long life as a painter. For many years I worked as an impressionist painter observing the play of light and color in still lives and landscapes\, analyzing how to use gestural marks of color to describe objects in the picture. I recently learned to let go of all figuration to concentrate on the color itself to create the composition.\nWebsite

These four artists expand on the realities of shared history and experience to create fantastical and speculative worlds\, offering new possibilities for culture\, identity\, and the future: \nRagnar KjartanssonBorn 1976; Reykjavík\, IcelandThrough performance\, music\, video\, drawing\, painting\, and sculpture\, Kjartansson explores humanity’s fundamental concerns\, from myth-making and national identity to love and beauty. Engaging with the history of music\, television\, and performance\, the artist employs simple yet effective strategies\, such as repetition and extended duration\, (to transform everyday experiences into profound works of art that resonate with the human condition. \nTomás SaracenoBorn 1973; Tucumán\, ArgentinaSaraceno proposes more just and eco-social ways of experiencing and inhabiting our environment through interactive artworks that bridge architecture\, engineering\, and sculpture. Uniquely inspired by the structures and behaviors of the more-than-human world\, the artist often embraces a collaborative ethos working with specialists across varied fields. In particular\, Saraceno studies and replicates the behaviors of spiders to gain a deeper understanding of our collective existence and to imagine new ways of coexisting. \nCandice LinBorn 1979; Concord\, MassachusettsIn her research-based practice\, Lin works with a wide variety of materials driven by a deep interest in their histories and offers alternative understandings of society and ourselves. Equally engaging historical fact and speculation\, the artist gives voice to overlooked perspectives\, creating visceral and sensorial experiences through sculptures\, videos\, texts\, paintings\, and installations. \nNjideka Akunyili CrosbyBorn 1983; Enugu\, NigeriaAkunyili Crosby uses painting\, drawing\, printmaking\, and collage to reflect the complex construction of her own identity and those around her.
