This exhibit features the work of guild members\, showcasing a rich variety of themes and textile art forms that reflect the unique voices and styles of each maker. \nThe collection highlights a wide range of fiber art techniques and includes narrative quilts\, political quilts\, nature-inspired works\, cultural quilts\, color studies\, quilted garments\, and memory quilts. Named for the Akan concept Sankofa\, meaning “go back and get it\,” the guild honors ancestral wisdom while shaping contemporary artistic expression. \nAs members of the Modern Quilt Guild\, PSSMQG promotes the growth of modern quilting through art\, education\, and community engagement. Guided by the motto\, “Each one\, teach one\,” members create modern quilts that blend African textiles\, innovative design\, and storytelling. \nThe guild is made up of quilters spanning six generations\, with the oldest member being a nonagenarian. This intergenerational community brings together a rich range of life experiences and professional backgrounds\, including academicians\, accountants\, authors\, attorneys\, clergy\, computer scientists\, craft artists\, educators\, engineers\, managing executives\, nurses\, poets\, a professional singer & pianist\, social workers\, and visual artists. These diverse perspectives enrich the guild’s creative practice and strengthen its sense of community. \nPhilanthropy and community service are also central to the guild’s mission. Since its inceptionPSSMQG has expanded its impact beyond quilting through philanthropic activities that support and empower women and children. \nAs the guild celebrates its 10th anniversary\, it continues to foster artistic collaboration\, cultural connection\, and meaningful community engagement through the enduring art of quilting.

DESCRIPTION:The Pat Fisher Memorial Exhibition: Featuring Aaron Fisher & Freddie A. Young Jr.On View in our Siegal Gallery: August 4 – August 29\, 2026Opening reception during the August 5 Witherspoon-Jackson Community Princeton Safe Streets event from 5-7pm\nAbout the artists \nAaron Fisher:Princeton\, NJ is where it all began….. My mother says from the time I could hold a crayon\, I was drawing.  Artistic expression comes naturally.  Early influence came from my sister Pat\, who too is an artist\, and she encouraged me to hone my gift.  I attended Middlesex County College\, majoring in Marketing\, Art and Design.  I am currently the Visual Arts mentor for the New Brunswick area branch of ACT-SO (Afro- Academic\, Cultural\, Technological and Scientific Olympics)\, which is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit\, stimulate and encourage high academic and cultural achievement amongst African-American high school students.Working on canvas and wood\, utilizing acrylic paint\, inks and colored pencil\, I focus on the human face layering the various colors to recreate expression\, character and life.  Details matter and with all my pieces\, I carefully attempt to recreate the details that make each face unique.  I have never encountered a dull subject and inspiration is readily available.  I work fervently to create works that express my admiration for the subject matter and in doing so\, I am hopeful that the gazer notices the details but also\, feels…I currently reside in Franklin Park\, NJ with Angela\, my beautiful wife of 30+ years and our daughter\, Kylie. \nFreddie A. Young Jr.: \nI am who I am. Not out of arrogance\, but out of return.In harmony with a plan already good\, already written before I showed up to live it.I came from clay\, and one day I’ll return to soil. This body is borrowed. This life is one long season of making memory\, before the memory is all that’s left. My Story is that memory\, held still long enough to look at.My camera is my eye. I capture people through real relationships\, conversations\, time spent\, genuine interaction… All because that’s where intimacy lives. I photograph people in their environment: whatever surrounds them that has shaped who they are. Their vibration. This has brought me into frame with athletes\, poets\, authors\, lifelong friends and most importantly\, the people I meet and choose to honor\, professionally and beautifully.This work is an extension of memory. It’s how I document what I’ve lived. The audience is whoever cares to see the world through my eyes. Alhamdulillah. One Love.

SUMMARY:Jersey Art Meetup (JAM)
DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.
