DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed. \n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you. \nA screen-free singing experience:\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors\, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

DESCRIPTION:Poets and spoken word fans\, join us for an afternoon of heartfelt storytelling\, community connection\, and reflection celebrating the Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood\, Princeton’s 20th historic district.\n\nThe program will begin at 2pm with book signings\, followed by remarks from our Executive Director Adam Welch and a conversation with the Rev. Gregory S. Smith\, Evelyn Turner-Counts\, and Aaron Fisher. Following the discussion\, performers are invited to participate in an open mic session\, sharing spoken word pieces and poetry inspired by the spirit of the Witherspoon-Jackson community. \nThe third volume in the series features a collection of poetry and essays inspired by the Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood\, capturing the voices\, histories\, and lived experiences of its residents. Through vivid language and evocative imagery\, the book offers an intimate portrait of a community shaped by resilience\, memory\, and pride. \nACP Executive Director Adam Welch will release his new book\, Paul Robeson Place: How a Street Got Its Name\, and rerelease his zine Witherspoon-Jackson Neighborhood: Revised and Expanded. Also available for purchase will be Welch’s The Witherspoon-Jackson Neighborhood: How One Community Changed Princeton. \nThe event is free and open to the public. \nJOIN US AS A PERFORMER:\n• Prepare a story\, poem\, or spoken word piece up to 3 minutes in length and related to the neighborhood.\n• Arrive by 1:45pm to add your name to the hat. DESCRIPTION:Share your story\, your poetry\, or your prose\, based on the monthly theme!\nStory & Verse provides a warm and welcoming spotlight for both emerging and established artists in our Solley Theater\, an intimate space in the heart of Downtown Princeton. \nJoin us as a performer: \n\nPrepare a story\, poem\, or spoken word piece up to 5 minutes in length and (at least loosely) related to the theme. This month’s theme is open\, so share what you feel like.\nArrive by 6:45pm to add your name to the hat. No previous experience or pre-registration necessary.\n\nJoin our audience: \n\nTake the elevator or stairs to the Solley Theater\, located on the top floor of our Paul Robeson Center for the Arts.\nOptional: participate from your seat with a Micro Story. Read the printed prompt based on the evening’s theme and respond with a super concise story (just a line or two!) that answers the question. Shoot us an email. \n \nAbout our host:  \nBrass Rabbit is an artist\, contemporary curator\, and arts administrator based in Trenton\, New Jersey. Rabbit has been creating and hosting poetry\, spoken word\, and storytelling events in the tri-state area for over a decade. As a performer\, the art of storytelling holds a very special place in her heart\, but listening to and supporting others is where she feels most at home. \nHosting the Story & Verse Open Mic at the Arts Council of Princeton could be called a dream job\, but for Rabbit\, the position completely lacks any “work-like” qualities and is more of an outstanding experience she looks forward to each month. Previously\, Rabbit has hosted the Levitt Amp Music Series\, Voice to Ear Festival\, Word on Front Poetry Festival\, independent poetry and storytelling open mics\, and even curated an art exhibition celebrating the art of poetry.

Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

SUMMARY:PRINCETON CRIT | Artist Critique Group
DESCRIPTION:Meet area artists\, receive peer-to-peer feedback\, and share creative resources. \nPrinceton Crit provides a monthly space for artists to come together to share and discuss their creative practice. Together\, we’ll foster an atmosphere of constructive peer-to-peer criticism\, free of judgment and open to all. \nWe encourage a diversity of voices\, mediums\, artistic skills\, and projects in varying stages of completion. It is our core belief that every artist has something to offer\, regardless of experience level or background. \nHow it works: \n\nCrits are held monthly on every last Tuesday of the month in the Arts Council of Princeton’s Solley Theater.\nParticipants may arrive as early as 6pm to set up their work. The crit will begin at 6:30.\nEach session is limited to 10 participants to allow sufficient time for each artist to present their work for feedback.\nEach artist will receive a 10-minute critique of their work. Artists may bring up to three pieces for discussion\, no exception.\nThe Arts Council will provide easels for the display of your work. Pedestals may be made available — kindly let us know in the registration form if you’re displaying 3D work.\nA $10 registration fee helps cover costs of running this resource for area artists.\n\nPrinceton Crit policies: \n\nArtists must be at least 18 years of age.\nWhen critiquing\, be mindful of listening without interrupting. When offering constructive feedback\, refrain from using harsh\, rude\, or disrespectful language. Be aware of the 10-minute time limit and allow others to speak if you have already provided feedback.\nWhen presenting\, be open to constructive feedback on your work and respectful of fellow artists’ work.\nSilence your phone for the duration of the crit session. If you need to take a call\, please step outside the crit room.\nThe Arts Council of Princeton reserves the right to use images of participants and/or their work for promotional purposes on its website\, Instagram\, Facebook and email.\n\nCrit facilitator:\n\nCarey Gates is a talented educator and artist with over twenty years of experience teaching art and art history. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania\, earning a BFA\, and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts\, earning an MFA. He is a practicing artist who has participated in numerous regional and national exhibitions. He has taught art\, art criticism and art history for over twenty. He revels in the shared experience of dialogue and discussion with other artists\, seeing this as both an opportunity for collaborative meaning-making and growth. \n\nRegister here
