SUMMARY:PRINCETON CRIT | Artist Critique Group
DESCRIPTION:Meet area artists\, receive peer-to-peer feedback\, and share creative resources. \nPrinceton Crit provides a monthly space for artists to come together to share and discuss their creative practice. Together\, we’ll foster an atmosphere of constructive peer-to-peer criticism\, free of judgment and open to all. \nWe encourage a diversity of voices\, mediums\, artistic skills\, and projects in varying stages of completion. It is our core belief that every artist has something to offer\, regardless of experience level or background. \nHow it works: \n\nCrits are held monthly on every last Tuesday of the month in the Arts Council of Princeton’s Solley Theater.\nParticipants may arrive as early as 6pm to set up their work. The crit will begin at 6:30.\nEach session is limited to 10 participants to allow sufficient time for each artist to present their work for feedback.\nEach artist will receive a 10-minute critique of their work. Artists may bring up to three pieces for discussion\, no exception.\nThe Arts Council will provide easels for the display of your work. Pedestals may be made available — kindly let us know in the registration form if you’re displaying 3D work.\nA $10 registration fee helps cover costs of running this resource for area artists.\n\nPrinceton Crit policies: \n\nArtists must be at least 18 years of age.\nWhen critiquing\, be mindful of listening without interrupting. When offering constructive feedback\, refrain from using harsh\, rude\, or disrespectful language. He is a practicing artist who has participated in numerous regional and national exhibitions. He has taught art\, art criticism and art history for over twenty. SUMMARY:Pratima: Singularity and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:A live Indian Classical dance performance. \n\nOur Winter 2026 Artist-in-Residence Nisha Pradeep’s residency will culminate in a live performance\, bridging ancient tradition and futuristic inquiry through the accessible and emotive language of dance. A guided discussion with the audience will follow. \nThis dance contrasts humanity’s organic\, multi-millennial evolution with the rapid\, exponential growth of synthetic intelligence. Through expressive storytelling (Abhinaya) and intricate rhythmic structures\, the work investigates the philosophical threshold known as the Singularity — the point at which artificial intelligence surpasses human capability — and the emergence of superintelligence. At its core\, the project asks a timely and essential question: what does it mean to be human in an era of sentient machines? \nAbout the ArtistTrained in Indian classical artforms\, Bharathanatyam and Mohiniyattom\, Nisha Pradeep started her journey at Nataraj Kalamandir\, India under the tutelage of Guru Rajalakshmi Surendran. Nisha has a Masters of Fine Arts in Bharathanatyam from Annamalai University. As a performer\, the art of storytelling holds a very special place in her heart\, but listening to and supporting others is where she feels most at home. \nHosting the Story & Verse Open Mic at the Arts Council of Princeton could be called a dream job\, but for Rabbit\, the position completely lacks any “work-like” qualities and is more of an outstanding experience she looks forward to each month. Previously\, Rabbit has hosted the Levitt Amp Music Series\, Voice to Ear Festival\, Word on Front Poetry Festival\, independent poetry and storytelling open mics\, and even curated an art exhibition celebrating the art of poetry.

DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed.\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you. \nA screen-free singing experience:\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors\, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. DESCRIPTION:Poets and spoken word fans\, join us for an afternoon of heartfelt storytelling\, community connection\, and reflection celebrating the Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood\, Princeton’s 20th historic district.\n\nThe program will begin at 2pm with book signings\, followed by remarks from our Executive Director Adam Welch and a conversation with the Rev. Gregory S. Smith\, Evelyn Turner-Counts\, and Aaron Fisher. Following the discussion\, performers are invited to participate in an open mic session\, sharing spoken word pieces and poetry inspired by the spirit of the Witherspoon-Jackson community. \nThe third volume in the series features a collection of poetry and essays inspired by the Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood\, capturing the voices\, histories\, and lived experiences of its residents. Through vivid language and evocative imagery\, the book offers an intimate portrait of a community shaped by resilience\, memory\, and pride. \nACP Executive Director Adam Welch will release his new book\, Paul Robeson Place: How a Street Got Its Name\, and rerelease his zine Witherspoon-Jackson Neighborhood: Revised and Expanded. SUMMARY:Live printmaking with Anne Reeves Artist-in-Residence Nancy Hackett
DESCRIPTION:This live printmaking event will mark the culmination of Nancy Hackett’s Anne-Reeves Artist Residency. \nHackett will activate the Sands lobby with finished prints on display and live linocut printmaking\, offering visitors an opportunity to witness the printmaking process in real time. Guests are invited to observe as carved blocks are inked and printed by hand\, celebrating both the residency conclusion and the power of process-based art.  \nArtist Statement:Through my printmaking work I explore ecology and the human relationship with the natural world. The complexities of ecosystems and the interconnected\, often symbiotic\, nature of organism relationships intrigues me. I want my prints to tell this story while highlighting the beauty of nature through a lens of human appreciation.I have spent my whole life in New Jersey and have always loved exploring the ecology of this area. I have also worked on various farms and gardens which has cultivated my connection to plants and the importance of taking care of the land.This ongoing body of work explores the ecology of Central Jersey with an understated but important focus on farms and food systems. The reference images for the prints were from farms and gardens (including my own) in New Jersey where I have worked. In support of our local food system a portion of the profits from these sales will be donated to Northeast Organic Farming Association of NJ (NOFA).I will also be printing live at the opening to include the viewer in the art process. Printmaking is a time intensive process filled with a lot of care\, similar to farming and gardening.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special screening of “America Unfiltered: Portraits and Voices of a Nation”\, followed by a Q&A with directors Horacio Marquinez and Kirill Myltsev.\nAbout the film:\nWHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN AMERICAN?\nWanting to understand a fractured country with a rancorous election underway during a wave of gun violence\, two immigrant filmmakers\, one from Panama and the other from Russia\, journey across the United States revealing an unfiltered\, unflinching portrait of America. The filmmakers traveled for nine months in a Mini-Cooper listening to people and recording their stories about what it’s like to live in America today. America Unfiltered draws from a series of raw and emotional encounters on topics ranging from politics and gun control to race and immigration. The film presents an unvarnished vision of our shared humanity and engenders hope for our country’s next chapter. \nAbout the filmmakers:\n\nHoracio Marquínez\, Co-Creator\, Writer-Director\nHoracio has worked on independent films\, commercials\, and major motion pictures that include renowned directors\, producers\, and actors\, including Robin Williams\, Adrian Brody\, Dolly Parton\, Vera Farmiga\, Mila Jovovich\, David Corenswet. Born and raised in Panama\, Horacio made his way to NYC graduating from Columbia University Film School. \nKirill Myltsev\, Co-Creator\, Writer-Director\nKirill is a highly regarded network/studio editor\, originally from Moscow. He has a master’s degree in film directing and holds an MBA from University of Moscow. He has edited over a dozen feature films in his native country of Russia and worked on dozens of international and American commercials and films. He lives in New York City. \nDr. Marc Brackett\, Producer\nMarc is the founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and professor in the Child Study Center. He is the lead developer of RULER\, an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that has been adopted by 5\,000 schools across the globe. SUMMARY:PRINCETON CRIT | Small Group Critique
DESCRIPTION:Meet area artists\, receive peer-to-peer feedback\, and share creative resources. \nPrinceton Crit provides a monthly space for artists to come together to share and discuss their creative practice. Together\, we’ll foster an atmosphere of constructive peer-to-peer criticism\, free of judgment and open to all. \nWe encourage a diversity of voices\, mediums\, artistic skills\, and projects in varying stages of completion. It is our core belief that every artist has something to offer\, regardless of experience level or background. \nHow it works: \n\nCrits are held monthly on every last Tuesday of the month in the Arts Council of Princeton’s Solley Theater.\nParticipants may arrive as early as 6pm to set up their work. The crit will begin at 6:30.\nEach session is limited to 10 participants to allow sufficient time for each artist to present their work for feedback.\nEach artist will receive a 10-minute critique of their work. Artists may bring up to three pieces for discussion\, no exception.\nThe Arts Council will provide easels for the display of your work. Pedestals may be made available — kindly let us know in the registration form if you’re displaying 3D work.\nA $10 registration fee helps cover costs of running this resource for area artists.\n\nPrinceton Crit policies: \n\nArtists must be at least 18 years of age.\nWhen critiquing\, be mindful of listening without interrupting. When offering constructive feedback\, refrain from using harsh\, rude\, or disrespectful language. Be aware of the 10-minute time limit and allow others to speak if you have already provided feedback.\nWhen presenting\, be open to constructive feedback on your work and respectful of fellow artists’ work.\nSilence your phone for the duration of the crit session. He is a practicing artist who has participated in numerous regional and national exhibitions. He has taught art\, art criticism and art history for over twenty. DESCRIPTION:Share your story\, your poetry\, or your prose\, based on the monthly theme!\nStory & Verse provides a warm and welcoming spotlight for both emerging and established artists in our Solley Theater\, an intimate space in the heart of Downtown Princeton. \nJoin us as a performer: \n\nPrepare a story\, poem\, or spoken word piece up to 5 minutes in length and (at least loosely) related to the theme. This month’s theme is “Beginnings”\nArrive by 6:45pm to add your name to the hat. No previous experience or pre-registration necessary.\n\nJoin our audience: \n\nTake the elevator or stairs to the Solley Theater\, located on the top floor of our Paul Robeson Center for the Arts.\nOptional: participate from your seat with a Micro Story. Read the printed prompt based on the evening’s theme and respond with a super concise story (just a line or two!) that answers the question. As a performer\, the art of storytelling holds a very special place in her heart\, but listening to and supporting others is where she feels most at home. \nHosting the Story & Verse Open Mic at the Arts Council of Princeton could be called a dream job\, but for Rabbit\, the position completely lacks any “work-like” qualities and is more of an outstanding experience she looks forward to each month. Previously\, Rabbit has hosted the Levitt Amp Music Series\, Voice to Ear Festival\, Word on Front Poetry Festival\, independent poetry and storytelling open mics\, and even curated an art exhibition celebrating the art of poetry.
