DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

SUMMARY:PRINCETON CRIT | Artist Critique Group
DESCRIPTION:Meet area artists\, receive peer-to-peer feedback\, and share creative resources. \nPrinceton Crit provides a monthly space for artists to come together to share and discuss their creative practice. Together\, we’ll foster an atmosphere of constructive peer-to-peer criticism\, free of judgment and open to all. \nWe encourage a diversity of voices\, mediums\, artistic skills\, and projects in varying stages of completion. It is our core belief that every artist has something to offer\, regardless of experience level or background. \nHow it works: \n\nCrits are held monthly on every last Tuesday of the month in the Arts Council of Princeton’s Solley Theater.\nParticipants may arrive as early as 6pm to set up their work. The crit will begin at 6:30.\nEach session is limited to 10 participants to allow sufficient time for each artist to present their work for feedback.\nEach artist will receive a 10-minute critique of their work. Artists may bring up to three pieces for discussion\, no exception.\nThe Arts Council will provide easels for the display of your work. Pedestals may be made available — kindly let us know in the registration form if you’re displaying 3D work.\nA $10 registration fee helps cover costs of running this resource for area artists.\n\nPrinceton Crit policies: \n\nArtists must be at least 18 years of age.\nWhen critiquing\, be mindful of listening without interrupting. When offering constructive feedback\, refrain from using harsh\, rude\, or disrespectful language. Be aware of the 10-minute time limit and allow others to speak if you have already provided feedback.\nWhen presenting\, be open to constructive feedback on your work and respectful of fellow artists’ work.\nSilence your phone for the duration of the crit session. SUMMARY:Pratima: Singularity and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:A live Indian Classical dance performance. \n\nOur Winter 2026 Artist-in-Residence Nisha Pradeep’s residency will culminate in a live performance\, bridging ancient tradition and futuristic inquiry through the accessible and emotive language of dance. A guided discussion with the audience will follow. \nThis dance contrasts humanity’s organic\, multi-millennial evolution with the rapid\, exponential growth of synthetic intelligence. Through expressive storytelling (Abhinaya) and intricate rhythmic structures\, the work investigates the philosophical threshold known as the Singularity — the point at which artificial intelligence surpasses human capability — and the emergence of superintelligence. At its core\, the project asks a timely and essential question: what does it mean to be human in an era of sentient machines? \nAbout the ArtistTrained in Indian classical artforms\, Bharathanatyam and Mohiniyattom\, Nisha Pradeep started her journey at Nataraj Kalamandir\, India under the tutelage of Guru Rajalakshmi Surendran. Nisha has a Masters of Fine Arts in Bharathanatyam from Annamalai University. SUMMARY:Art Pop-up: Recent Works by Joe Kossow
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a one-day art pop-up showcasing the recent works of Joe Kossow.\nArtist statement:The source material for these works are photographs that date from 1860-1940.  I spend a long time editing the photos (changing their scale\, eliminating certain elements\, working with aspects of dark and light) until I have recomposed the works.  I draw as accurately from the edited source material as I can\, then take liberties with the brushwork to emphasize elements of light and dark as needed.  I love the imaginative narrative inherent in these drawings of wrecked ships\, old harbors\, town life\, people praying or people at a café.   \nAbout the artist:Joe Kossow received a Master in Fine Arts degree from The American University in Washington\, DC in 1982\, where he studied with Ben Summerford\, Robert D’Arista and Jack Boul. In 1983 he co-founded the Washington Studio School with Lee Newman\, Carlton Fletcher\, Jack Boul\, Susan Yanero\, David Holt\, Jo Weiss\, and Katie Murray. Joe taught at the Washington Studio School and local Washington area colleges for 8 years. He was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields prize in 1983. His work has been shown in the DC area\, Pennsylvania\, New Jersey\, and in Paris and Nancy\, France.  He lives and works in Princeton\, New Jersey.Learn more about the artist via his website here.

SUMMARY:Princeton Kiosk Design Competition Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Honoring the 7 designs in the competition to reimagine the municipality’s kiosks. \nAmerican Institue of Architects (AIA)\, New Jersey presented the winners of the Princeton Kiosk Design Competition to the Mayor and Council\, capping a months-long effort to reimagine the bulletin board structures that have anchored Nassau Street since 1988. \nThe competition grew out of last year’s Nassau Street Streetscape Project\, which raised the possibility of removing the kiosks altogether. Princeton architect Joshua Zinder\, a former AIA New Jersey president\, reached out to Councilman David Cohen and municipal engineer Deanna Stockton to propose a design competition as an alternative. \nThe competition opened May 30 and closed July 18. The top six entries were then displayed at the Princeton Public Library\, where residents voted for a People’s Choice Award. \nAll entries will be on display here on March 24\, 25 and 26 in our theater space. DESCRIPTION:The Ephemeral Waltz of the Butterfly\nBy Gina Lucia\nOn view: Mar 21 – Apr 18\nOpening: Sat\, Mar 21 | 3-5pm\n\nExhibition statement:\nOur bodies by construction imitate objects in nature that keep us alive. However\, we are as ephemeral as the leaves on a tree and as we evolve\, change form and respond to environmental changes\, we shed our leaves\, our skin and transform\, wither and die. The very essence of our existence is as ephemeral as our world\, our planet and all of the living things in the eco-system. Human kind is a part of the earth as are all of the creatures\, insects\, birds\, plants and other organic matter. Though we believe that we matter more than all of other living matter\, human kind is nothing more than organic matter. Organic matter resembling all other life forms: the roots of trees resemble our lungs\, like waterways and estuaries flow for plant life and other life to thrive. Small ventricles of life that expand and contract bring air\, food and water to our bodies and nourish our organs. As larvae transform into caterpillars and caterpillars into butterflies and the seasons transform into one another there is a rebirth of matter and a transformation that imitates nature and nature imitates man\, all fragile\, beautiful and ephemeral; such is the ephemeral waltz of the butterfly \nAbout the artist:\nLucia’s mixed media collage work fuses commercial and fine art techniques. Hand drawn sketches are combined with found objects\, photography\, hand-rendered typography and presented in a thought-provoking photomontage. Inspired by music\, Surrealism and the Freudian concept of free association\, personal experiences and heartbreak\, everyday encounters with objects people and places\, the current social and political climate\, her collages are spontaneous juxtapositions of unlikely things. She incorporates elements of pop culture; viscera; nature; animals; insects; and other eclectic ephemera into her work. The harmonious commingling of both digital technology and fine art techniques has allowed her to redefine and refine her art.\nWebsite

I spent the majority of my life waitressing and traveling around the country and havehad the greatest experiences meeting people from all different walks of life. I’ve learned that onewears many hats as a waitress working with the public. You are a therapist listening tostrangers’ problems; a salesperson selling items on the menu; a mediator between the customerand cooks when the food comes out wrong; a housekeeper keeping the restaurant clean andsanitized; a cashier responsible for bills and payments. All of this must be done with a smile onyour face. Despite all this\, serving is commonly looked down upon as a mediocre job and not acareer – something one does when they cannot find any other work.Through words and portraits\, I give recognition to each waitress/waiter. Each portrait isillustrated in ballpoint pen that waitress/ers use\, and completed on bold yet simple black andyellow Waffle House colors and is accompanied by a short story of what they shared aboutthemselves to me.

This month’s theme is open\, so share what you feel like.\nArrive by 6:45pm to add your name to the hat. No previous experience or pre-registration necessary.\n\nJoin our audience: \n\nTake the elevator or stairs to the Solley Theater\, located on the top floor of our Paul Robeson Center for the Arts.\nOptional: participate from your seat with a Micro Story. Shoot us an email. \n \nAbout our host:  \nBrass Rabbit is an artist\, contemporary curator\, and arts administrator based in Trenton\, New Jersey. Rabbit has been creating and hosting poetry\, spoken word\, and storytelling events in the tri-state area for over a decade. As a performer\, the art of storytelling holds a very special place in her heart\, but listening to and supporting others is where she feels most at home. \nHosting the Story & Verse Open Mic at the Arts Council of Princeton could be called a dream job\, but for Rabbit\, the position completely lacks any “work-like” qualities and is more of an outstanding experience she looks forward to each month. Previously\, Rabbit has hosted the Levitt Amp Music Series\, Voice to Ear Festival\, Word on Front Poetry Festival\, independent poetry and storytelling open mics\, and even curated an art exhibition celebrating the art of poetry.

DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed.\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you. \nA screen-free singing experience:\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors\, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. Gregory S. Smith\, Evelyn Turner-Counts\, and Aaron Fisher. Following the discussion\, performers are invited to participate in an open mic session\, sharing spoken word pieces and poetry inspired by the spirit of the Witherspoon-Jackson community. \nThe third volume in the series features a collection of poetry and essays inspired by the Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood\, capturing the voices\, histories\, and lived experiences of its residents. DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed. \n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you. \nA screen-free singing experience:\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors\, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

Details here. \nMeet area artists\, receive peer-to-peer feedback\, and share creative resources. \nPrinceton Crit provides a monthly space for artists to come together to share and discuss their creative practice. Together\, we’ll foster an atmosphere of constructive peer-to-peer criticism\, free of judgment and open to all. \nWe encourage a diversity of voices\, mediums\, artistic skills\, and projects in varying stages of completion. It is our core belief that every artist has something to offer\, regardless of experience level or background. \nHow it works: \n\nCrits are held monthly on every last Tuesday of the month in the Arts Council of Princeton’s Solley Theater.\nParticipants may arrive as early as 6pm to set up their work. The crit will begin at 6:30.\nEach session is limited to 10 participants to allow sufficient time for each artist to present their work for feedback.\nEach artist will receive a 10-minute critique of their work. Artists may bring up to three pieces for discussion\, no exception.\nThe Arts Council will provide easels for the display of your work. Pedestals may be made available — kindly let us know in the registration form if you’re displaying 3D work.\nA $10 registration fee helps cover costs of running this resource for area artists.\n\nPrinceton Crit policies: \n\nArtists must be at least 18 years of age.\nWhen critiquing\, be mindful of listening without interrupting. When offering constructive feedback\, refrain from using harsh\, rude\, or disrespectful language. Be aware of the 10-minute time limit and allow others to speak if you have already provided feedback.\nWhen presenting\, be open to constructive feedback on your work and respectful of fellow artists’ work.\nSilence your phone for the duration of the crit session. DESCRIPTION:Join us for Story & Versary\, a special event celebrating 6 years of Story & Verse at the Arts Council of Princeton!\n\nDuring this festive open mic\, we will be hosting a No Where to Wear Party\, where you’re invited to show off something that’s been neglected in your closet. Join in on the fun with light refreshments\, potluck\, and a celebration of the community we’ve built together.\n\n\nStory & Verse provides a warm and welcoming spotlight for both emerging and established artists in our Solley Theater\, an intimate space in the heart of Downtown Princeton. Share your story\, your poetry\, or your prose\, based on the monthly theme! \nJoin us as a performer: \n\nPrepare a story\, poem\, or spoken word piece up to 5 minutes in length and (at least loosely) related to the theme. This month’s theme is “Ta Da!”\nArrive by 6:45pm to add your name to the hat. No previous experience or pre-registration necessary.\n\nJoin our audience: \n\nTake the elevator or stairs to the Solley Theater\, located on the top floor of our Paul Robeson Center for the Arts.\nOptional: participate from your seat with a Micro Story. Read the printed prompt based on the evening’s theme and respond with a super concise story (just a line or two!) that answers the question. SUMMARY:Live printmaking with Anne Reeves Artist-in-Residence Nancy Hackett
DESCRIPTION:This live printmaking event will mark the culmination of Nancy Hackett’s Anne-Reeves Artist Residency. \nHackett will activate the Sands lobby with finished prints on display and live linocut printmaking\, offering visitors an opportunity to witness the printmaking process in real time. Guests are invited to observe as carved blocks are inked and printed by hand\, celebrating both the residency conclusion and the power of process-based art.  \nArtist Statement:Through my printmaking work I explore ecology and the human relationship with the natural world. The complexities of ecosystems and the interconnected\, often symbiotic\, nature of organism relationships intrigues me. I want my prints to tell this story while highlighting the beauty of nature through a lens of human appreciation.I have spent my whole life in New Jersey and have always loved exploring the ecology of this area. I have also worked on various farms and gardens which has cultivated my connection to plants and the importance of taking care of the land.This ongoing body of work explores the ecology of Central Jersey with an understated but important focus on farms and food systems. The reference images for the prints were from farms and gardens (including my own) in New Jersey where I have worked. In support of our local food system a portion of the profits from these sales will be donated to Northeast Organic Farming Association of NJ (NOFA).I will also be printing live at the opening to include the viewer in the art process. Printmaking is a time intensive process filled with a lot of care\, similar to farming and gardening.
