The filmmakers traveled for nine months in a Mini-Cooper listening to people and recording their stories about what it’s like to live in America today. America Unfiltered draws from a series of raw and emotional encounters on topics ranging from politics and gun control to race and immigration. The film presents an unvarnished vision of our shared humanity and engenders hope for our country’s next chapter. \nAbout the filmmakers:\nHoracio Marquínez\, Co-Creator\, Writer-DirectorHoracio has worked on independent films\, commercials\, and major motion pictures that include renowned directors\, producers\, and actors\, including Robin Williams\, Adrian Brody\, Dolly Parton\, Vera Farmiga\, Mila Jovovich\, David Corenswet. He has a master’s degree in film directing and holds an MBA from University of Moscow. DESCRIPTION:Decisive Moment\nPhotography by artist Evan Wolarsky\nOn view: Feb 14 – Mar 14\nOpening: Sat\, Feb 14 | 3-5pm\nExhibition Statement:\nEvan Wolarsky was a devoted street photographer\, roaming the streets of New York\, the Princeton campus\, and destinations around the world in pursuit of what Henri Cartier-Bresson famously called the “decisive moment”\, that fleeting instant when form\, emotion\, and meaning align. Working primarily in black and white\, Wolarsky captured scenes of everyday life with sensitivity\, patience\, and a keen eye for human presence. \nEvery photograph in this exhibition was printed by Wolarsky himself. From 1976 to 1993\, he maintained an extensive darkroom in his Pennington home\, mastering traditional photographic printing techniques. Later\, he transitioned seamlessly into digital printing\, developing deep expertise in Photoshop and a nuanced understanding of papers\, inks\, and printers. His commitment to craft remained constant across technologies\, with the final print always central to his practice. \nWolarsky’s passion for photography began at the age of nine\, when his father gifted him a Leica camera\, a moment that sparked a lifelong artistic pursuit far beyond hobby. Alongside his creative work\, Wolarsky led a distinguished career in medicine\, earning degrees from Harvard\, the University of Pennsylvania\, and Wharton\, completing surgical training at Columbia-Presbyterian\, serving in the U.S. Navy\, and later becoming the first medical director of Hunterdon Medical Center before retiring in 1999. \nIn addition to being a dedicated physician\, Wolarsky was a gifted pianist\, marathon runner\, and active member of the artistic community. His photographs have been exhibited at Soho Photo Gallery in New York City\, Ellarslie at the Trenton City Museum\, and in national online exhibitions\, and are held in private collections throughout the Princeton area. \nPhotographs in this exhibition are available for purchase\, with proceeds benefiting the Arts Council of Princeton. \n

DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

Originally from New Jersey\, The Garden State\, but currently in the Bay Area\, CA. I grew up admiring the beauty that grows in the tristate area. Alongside that\, my family has always supported local farms and CSA programs\, which meant I was exposed to many pretty flowers. \nHowever\, my journey as “That Girl With Flowers” unexpectedly began by selling bouquets to my friends from my personal Instagram account using a Google Form. From there\, word got around that I was the girl with flowers. \nNow\, I make more important bouquets for weddings\, engagements and even other floral items for events (centerpieces\, arches\, etc). I am beyond grateful for how far this unexpected journey has come and excited to see where things go from here!

DESCRIPTION:Poets and spoken word fans\, join us for an afternoon of heartfelt storytelling\, community connection\, and reflection celebrating the Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood\, Princeton’s 20th historic district.\n\nThe program will begin at 2pm with book signings\, followed by remarks from our Executive Director Adam Welch and a conversation with the Rev. Gregory S. Smith\, Evelyn Turner-Counts\, and Aaron Fisher. Following the discussion\, performers are invited to participate in an open mic session\, sharing spoken word pieces and poetry inspired by the spirit of the Witherspoon-Jackson community. \nThe third volume in the series features a collection of poetry and essays inspired by the Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood\, capturing the voices\, histories\, and lived experiences of its residents. Through vivid language and evocative imagery\, the book offers an intimate portrait of a community shaped by resilience\, memory\, and pride. \nACP Executive Director Adam Welch will release his new book\, Paul Robeson Place: How a Street Got Its Name\, and rerelease his zine Witherspoon-Jackson Neighborhood: Revised and Expanded. DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed.\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you. \nA screen-free singing experience:\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors\, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. As a performer\, the art of storytelling holds a very special place in her heart\, but listening to and supporting others is where she feels most at home. \nHosting the Story & Verse Open Mic at the Arts Council of Princeton could be called a dream job\, but for Rabbit\, the position completely lacks any “work-like” qualities and is more of an outstanding experience she looks forward to each month. Previously\, Rabbit has hosted the Levitt Amp Music Series\, Voice to Ear Festival\, Word on Front Poetry Festival\, independent poetry and storytelling open mics\, and even curated an art exhibition celebrating the art of poetry.

Unlike commercially processed clay\, wild clay enables the maker to tap into the unique characteristics of a specific place — its colors\, textures\, and material properties — revealing the distinct identity of the local landscape. \nClay is intrinsically linked to anthropology: we understand much about societies of the past through their use of clay. Local “wild” clay offers discovery of local history\, ecology\, geology\, science\, and a contemporary view of art. I spent the majority of my life waitressing and traveling around the country and have\nhad the greatest experiences meeting people from all different walks of life. I’ve learned that one\nwears many hats as a waitress working with the public. You are a therapist listening to\nstrangers’ problems; a salesperson selling items on the menu; a mediator between the customer\nand cooks when the food comes out wrong; a housekeeper keeping the restaurant clean and\nsanitized; a cashier responsible for bills and payments. All of this must be done with a smile on\nyour face. Despite all this\, serving is commonly looked down upon as a mediocre job and not a\ncareer – something one does when they cannot find any other work.\nThrough words and portraits\, I give recognition to each waitress/waiter. Each portrait is\nillustrated in ballpoint pen that waitress/ers use\, and completed on bold yet simple black and\nyellow Waffle House colors and is accompanied by a short story of what they shared about\nthemselves to me.

However\, we are as ephemeral as the leaves on a tree and as we evolve\, change form and respond to environmental changes\, we shed our leaves\, our skin and transform\, wither and die. The very essence of our existence is as ephemeral as our world\, our planet and all of the living things in the eco-system. Human kind is a part of the earth as are all of the creatures\, insects\, birds\, plants and other organic matter. Though we believe that we matter more than all of other living matter\, human kind is nothing more than organic matter. Organic matter resembling all other life forms: the roots of trees resemble our lungs\, like waterways and estuaries flow for plant life and other life to thrive. Small ventricles of life that expand and contract bring air\, food and water to our bodies and nourish our organs. As larvae transform into caterpillars and caterpillars into butterflies and the seasons transform into one another there is a rebirth of matter and a transformation that imitates nature and nature imitates man\, all fragile\, beautiful and ephemeral; such is the ephemeral waltz of the butterfly \nAbout the artist:\nLucia’s mixed media collage work fuses commercial and fine art techniques. Hand drawn sketches are combined with found objects\, photography\, hand-rendered typography and presented in a thought-provoking photomontage. Inspired by music\, Surrealism and the Freudian concept of free association\, personal experiences and heartbreak\, everyday encounters with objects people and places\, the current social and political climate\, her collages are spontaneous juxtapositions of unlikely things. She incorporates elements of pop culture; viscera; nature; animals; insects; and other eclectic ephemera into her work. SUMMARY:Princeton Kiosk Design Competition Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Honoring the 7 designs in the competition to reimagine the municipality’s kiosks. \nAmerican Institue of Architects (AIA)\, New Jersey presented the winners of the Princeton Kiosk Design Competition to the Mayor and Council\, capping a months-long effort to reimagine the bulletin board structures that have anchored Nassau Street since 1988. \nThe competition grew out of last year’s Nassau Street Streetscape Project\, which raised the possibility of removing the kiosks altogether. Princeton architect Joshua Zinder\, a former AIA New Jersey president\, reached out to Councilman David Cohen and municipal engineer Deanna Stockton to propose a design competition as an alternative. \nThe competition opened May 30 and closed July 18. The top six entries were then displayed at the Princeton Public Library\, where residents voted for a People’s Choice Award. \nAll entries will be on display here on March 24\, 25 and 26 in our theater space. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

SUMMARY:Art Pop-up: Recent Works by Joe Kossow
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a one-day art pop-up showcasing the recent works of Joe Kossow.\nArtist statement:The source material for these works are photographs that date from 1860-1940.  I spend a long time editing the photos (changing their scale\, eliminating certain elements\, working with aspects of dark and light) until I have recomposed the works.  I draw as accurately from the edited source material as I can\, then take liberties with the brushwork to emphasize elements of light and dark as needed.  I love the imaginative narrative inherent in these drawings of wrecked ships\, old harbors\, town life\, people praying or people at a café.   \nAbout the artist:Joe Kossow received a Master in Fine Arts degree from The American University in Washington\, DC in 1982\, where he studied with Ben Summerford\, Robert D’Arista and Jack Boul. In 1983 he co-founded the Washington Studio School with Lee Newman\, Carlton Fletcher\, Jack Boul\, Susan Yanero\, David Holt\, Jo Weiss\, and Katie Murray. Joe taught at the Washington Studio School and local Washington area colleges for 8 years. He was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields prize in 1983. His work has been shown in the DC area\, Pennsylvania\, New Jersey\, and in Paris and Nancy\, France.  He lives and works in Princeton\, New Jersey.Learn more about the artist via his website here.

It must be discovered\, dug\, used in its raw state – or sometimes\, refined – and then tested. Unlike commercially processed clay\, wild clay enables the maker to tap into the unique characteristics of a specific place — its colors\, textures\, and material properties — revealing the distinct identity of the local landscape. \nClay is intrinsically linked to anthropology: we understand much about societies of the past through their use of clay. Local “wild” clay offers discovery of local history\, ecology\, geology\, science\, and a contemporary view of art. In most cases local wild clay is infused with such color and character incomparable to commercial clay. \nWorking with wild clay fosters a deeper connection to the long lineage of makers who\, for thousands of years\, shaped and reshaped their worlds through this material. It offers a way to step outside the relentless cycle of consumerism and mass production\, reminding us that art and ecology are intertwined and fostering awareness of our materials\, where they come from\, and our impact on the land. \nAbout the curators:\n\nJohn Reinking\nJohn Reinking is a New Jersey based ceramic artist whose work focuses on harvesting local materials to create functional and sculptural ceramic work. Reinking embraces clay in its rawest sense — from locally dug earth to refined stoneware — and fires in his woodkiln. His pieces bear the mark of fire\, ash\, and flame\, transforming simple forms into vessels of permanence and ritual. SUMMARY:Pratima: Singularity and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:A live Indian Classical dance performance. \n\nOur Winter 2026 Artist-in-Residence Nisha Pradeep’s residency will culminate in a live performance\, bridging ancient tradition and futuristic inquiry through the accessible and emotive language of dance. A guided discussion with the audience will follow. \nThis dance contrasts humanity’s organic\, multi-millennial evolution with the rapid\, exponential growth of synthetic intelligence. Through expressive storytelling (Abhinaya) and intricate rhythmic structures\, the work investigates the philosophical threshold known as the Singularity — the point at which artificial intelligence surpasses human capability — and the emergence of superintelligence. At its core\, the project asks a timely and essential question: what does it mean to be human in an era of sentient machines? \nAbout the ArtistTrained in Indian classical artforms\, Bharathanatyam and Mohiniyattom\, Nisha Pradeep started her journey at Nataraj Kalamandir\, India under the tutelage of Guru Rajalakshmi Surendran. Nisha has a Masters of Fine Arts in Bharathanatyam from Annamalai University. SUMMARY:PRINCETON CRIT | Artist Critique Group
DESCRIPTION:Meet area artists\, receive peer-to-peer feedback\, and share creative resources. \nPrinceton Crit provides a monthly space for artists to come together to share and discuss their creative practice. Together\, we’ll foster an atmosphere of constructive peer-to-peer criticism\, free of judgment and open to all. \nWe encourage a diversity of voices\, mediums\, artistic skills\, and projects in varying stages of completion. It is our core belief that every artist has something to offer\, regardless of experience level or background. \nHow it works: \n\nCrits are held monthly on every last Tuesday of the month in the Arts Council of Princeton’s Solley Theater.\nParticipants may arrive as early as 6pm to set up their work. The crit will begin at 6:30.\nEach session is limited to 10 participants to allow sufficient time for each artist to present their work for feedback.\nEach artist will receive a 10-minute critique of their work. Artists may bring up to three pieces for discussion\, no exception.\nThe Arts Council will provide easels for the display of your work. Pedestals may be made available — kindly let us know in the registration form if you’re displaying 3D work.\nA $10 registration fee helps cover costs of running this resource for area artists.\n\nPrinceton Crit policies: \n\nArtists must be at least 18 years of age.\nWhen critiquing\, be mindful of listening without interrupting. Linda will introduce participants to the basics of isomalt\, a sugar derived from sugar beets\, and explain why this glossy\, durable material has become her medium of choice for sculptural work. \nWatch as a sugar sculpture comes to life through live demonstrations of casting\, pulling\, coloring\, and blowtorching techniques\, resulting in a striking vertical piece assembled in real time.
