DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

Named for the Akan concept Sankofa\, meaning “go back and get it\,” the guild honors ancestral wisdom while shaping contemporary artistic expression. \nAs members of the Modern Quilt Guild\, PSSMQG promotes the growth of modern quilting through art\, education\, and community engagement. Guided by the motto\, “Each one\, teach one\,” members create modern quilts that blend African textiles\, innovative design\, and storytelling. \nThe guild is made up of quilters spanning six generations\, with the oldest member being a nonagenarian. This intergenerational community brings together a rich range of life experiences and professional backgrounds\, including academicians\, accountants\, authors\, attorneys\, clergy\, computer scientists\, craft artists\, educators\, engineers\, managing executives\, nurses\, poets\, a professional singer & pianist\, social workers\, and visual artists. These diverse perspectives enrich the guild’s creative practice and strengthen its sense of community. \nPhilanthropy and community service are also central to the guild’s mission. DESCRIPTION:The CERAMIC SCAVENGER HUNT is back. This fan-favorite event is the most adventurous way to add to your collection of mugs\, bowls\, vases\, and small sculptures\, with more hidden pottery than ever before. Like\, a lot more. Starting at 1pm\, our team will hide handmade ceramic pieces around downtown Princeton — consider the area between Moore and Chamber Streets fair game. Find one and it’s yours to keep. How to participate: \n\nFollow us on Instagram at @artscouncilofprinceton.\nOn Sunday\, July 12 from 1-3pm\, stay tuned to our Stories. This is where we’ll post clues at to where we’re hiding each piece.\nWe’ll hide a few at a time\, post the clues\, then give you time to hunt. DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed.\n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you. \n\nA screen-free singing experience:\n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors\, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. DESCRIPTION:Share your story\, your poetry\, or your prose\, based on the monthly theme!\nStory & Verse provides a warm and welcoming spotlight for both emerging and established artists in our Solley Theater\, an intimate space in the heart of Downtown Princeton. \nJoin us as a performer: \n\nPrepare a story\, poem\, or spoken word piece up to 5 minutes in length and (at least loosely) related to the theme. This month’s theme is “Turn Up the Heat“\nArrive by 6:45pm to add your name to the hat. No previous experience or pre-registration necessary.\n\nJoin our audience: \n\nTake the elevator or stairs to the Solley Theater\, located on the top floor of our Paul Robeson Center for the Arts.\nOptional: participate from your seat with a Micro Story. Read the printed prompt based on the evening’s theme and respond with a super concise story (just a line or two!) that answers the question. Brass Rabbit will read your story at the mic\, as time allows.\nFind a seat and enjoy the performances. We kick off shortly after 7pm.\n\nQuestions? Shoot us an email. \n \nAbout our host:  \nBrass Rabbit is an artist\, contemporary curator\, and arts administrator based in Trenton\, New Jersey. Rabbit has been creating and hosting poetry\, spoken word\, and storytelling events in the tri-state area for over a decade. As a performer\, the art of storytelling holds a very special place in her heart\, but listening to and supporting others is where she feels most at home. \nHosting the Story & Verse Open Mic at the Arts Council of Princeton could be called a dream job\, but for Rabbit\, the position completely lacks any “work-like” qualities and is more of an outstanding experience she looks forward to each month. Previously\, Rabbit has hosted the Levitt Amp Music Series\, Voice to Ear Festival\, Word on Front Poetry Festival\, independent poetry and storytelling open mics\, and even curated an art exhibition celebrating the art of poetry.

She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed.\n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you. \n\nA screen-free singing experience:\n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors\, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

Ponder\nOn View: Saturday\, August 29 – Saturday\, October 3\, 2026\nOpening reception: Thursday\, September 10 from 5-7pm\nABOUT THE EXHIBITION:\nEchoes in Our Bones will explore how themes of identity\, history\, and cultural resilience have endured and transformed across generations. The exhibition examines how these artists have explored and expanded the ideals articulated in the Declaration of Independence\, “Life\, Liberty\, and the Pursuit of Happiness”\, using art as a powerful vehicle for expression\, resistance\, care\, and community. Pairings of artists from past and present generations will include Faith Ringgold and Bisa Butler\, Selma Burke and Allison Saar\, Mary Lovelace O’Neal and Julie Mehretu\, Betye Saar and Tschabalala Self\, Carrie Mae Weems and LaToya Ruby Frazier\, Laura Wheeler Waring and Jordan Casteel\, Elizabeth Catlett and Kara Walker\, and Howardena Pindell and Shinique Smith. Through these connections\, the exhibition will not only showcase individual artistic voices but also trace a lineage of creative expression that has contributed to shaping and defining American art. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nABOUT THE CURATORS:\nJudith K. Brodsky\nActivist\, artist\, curator\, writer Judith K. Brodsky is Distinguished Professor Emerita\, Department of Art and Design\, Rutgers University. She is a works-on-paper artist with prints and drawings in many museum collections worldwide and the founder of the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper\, now the Brodsky Center at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. The Brodsky Center\, established in 1986\, is known for its activist pioneer mission to further opportunities for women-identified\, BIPOC\, and non-binary artists. An exhibition documenting the years it was at Rutgers was on view at the Zimmerli Art Museum\, Fall 2023. She was also co-founder of the Center for Women in the Arts and Humanities at Rutgers University in 2006. As a curator or co-curator\, she has organized many exhibitions including The Fertile Crescent: Gender\, Art\, and Society (2012) and the Philadelphia city-wide print festival\, Philagrafika (2010)\, three decades of exhibitions for the Rutgers Women Artists; Restoring the Art and Lives of a Circle of Five Forgotten Black Artists (2022); and (re)FOCUS: Philadelphia Focuses on Women in the Visual Arts\, 1974-2024 (2024). She is past national president of ArtTable\, College Art Association\, Women's Caucus for Art\, former board chair\, New York Foundation for the Arts\, current board member\, Print Center New York\, and a former dean and associate provost at Rutgers. Brodsky writes on women artists and printmaking. Her most recent book is Dismantling the Patriarchy Bit by Bit: Art\, Feminism and Digital Technology (Bloomsbury 2022). A book on the history of the United States Feminist Art Movement focusing on the activist art historians and curators rather than the artists is due out in early 2027 (Bloomsbury Academic). \nRhinold L. Ponder\nRhinold Lamar Ponder\, the Executive Director of Art Against Racism\, is an artist\, curator\, author\, activist and lawyer.  He is the founder and Executive Director of Art Against Racism\, a 501(c)(3)\, based in Princeton\, New Jersey. AAR’s mission is to educate others about racial injustice and to provide opportunities and encouragement for others to create an anti-racist society.\nAn independent curator\, Rhinold has worked on several exhibitions and projects including those with Judith K. SUMMARY:ART OF Ceviche: Flavors of Peru
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the ART OF Ceviche: Flavors of Peru\, an immersive afternoon celebrating the vibrant culinary traditions\, music\, and culture of Peru. Carlos Sumba\, owner of Q’ero Restaurant\, will lead a live ceviche demonstration while sharing the history and regional traditions behind Peru’s iconic dish. Guests will enjoy tastings of ceviche along with a selection of traditional Peruvian bites throughout the afternoon. Known as one of the world’s great culinary destinations\, Peru’s cuisine blends Indigenous\, Spanish\, African\, Chinese\, and Japanese influences into a vibrant and globally celebrated food culture. The afternoon will also feature Taxheira of Queirolo serving Pisco Sours\, Peru’s beloved cocktail\, accompanied by stories and historical insights into the drink’s origins and cultural significance. Live Peruvian music will create a festive atmosphere as you explore the flavors\, sounds\, and traditions of Peru together. The night concludes on a sweet note with imported Peruvian chocolate fondue created by Cacao Origin. Part culinary experience\, part cultural journey\, the ART OF Ceviche invites guests to gather\, learn\, taste\, and celebrate the extraordinary traditions of Peruvian culture.

SUMMARY:Jersey Art Meetup (JAM)
DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

SUMMARY:Story & Verse: A Storytelling and Poetic Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:Share your story\, your poetry\, or your prose\, based on the monthly theme!\nStory & Verse provides a warm and welcoming spotlight for both emerging and established artists in our Solley Theater\, an intimate space in the heart of Downtown Princeton. \nJoin us as a performer: \n\nPrepare a story\, poem\, or spoken word piece up to 5 minutes in length and (at least loosely) related to the theme. This month’s theme is “With the Flow“\nArrive by 6:45pm to add your name to the hat. No previous experience or pre-registration necessary.\n\nJoin our audience: \n\nTake the elevator or stairs to the Solley Theater\, located on the top floor of our Paul Robeson Center for the Arts.\nOptional: participate from your seat with a Micro Story. Read the printed prompt based on the evening’s theme and respond with a super concise story (just a line or two!) that answers the question. Brass Rabbit will read your story at the mic\, as time allows.\nFind a seat and enjoy the performances. We kick off shortly after 7pm.\n\nQuestions? Shoot us an email. \n \nAbout our host:  \nBrass Rabbit is an artist\, contemporary curator\, and arts administrator based in Trenton\, New Jersey. Rabbit has been creating and hosting poetry\, spoken word\, and storytelling events in the tri-state area for over a decade. As a performer\, the art of storytelling holds a very special place in her heart\, but listening to and supporting others is where she feels most at home. \nHosting the Story & Verse Open Mic at the Arts Council of Princeton could be called a dream job\, but for Rabbit\, the position completely lacks any “work-like” qualities and is more of an outstanding experience she looks forward to each month. Previously\, Rabbit has hosted the Levitt Amp Music Series\, Voice to Ear Festival\, Word on Front Poetry Festival\, independent poetry and storytelling open mics\, and even curated an art exhibition celebrating the art of poetry.
