DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

DESCRIPTION:PIECES OF WORK\nBy Artists Carol Schepps & Trudy Borenstein-Sugiura\nOn View: November 14 – December 12\, 2026\nOpening Reception: Saturday\, November 14\, 3-5pm\n  \nExhibition Statement:\nWe have spent more than thirty years finishing each other’s sentences\, and eventually\, we started doing the same with our art. Our creative practices began in the demanding worlds of precision craft—one of us meticulously shaping wire\, metal\, and stone in jewelry design\, and the other engineering form\, movement\, and texture through textiles and fashion. That foundational obsession with strict craftsmanship\, micro-details\, and structural integrity still rules everything we make. \nHowever\, somewhere along the line\, the boundaries of traditional craft began to fray. We morphed into visual arts\, trading functional parameters for purely expressive freedom. Today\, our artwork\, although dissimilar\, brings the obsessive\, tactile discipline of Trudy’s jeweler’s bench and Carol’s fashion studio onto the canvas and into three dimensions. We take our construction seriously\, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Our deep friendship ensures that a thread of humor\, playfulness\, and joy runs through every complex layer\, proving that meticulous discipline and a good laugh can live in the exact same frame. \nAbout the Artists:\nTrudy Borenstein-Sugiura\nBio\nTrudy Borenstein-Sugiura is an award winning designer of fine jewelry and tabletop objects whose work is included in the Permanent Collection of the Smithsonian Institution at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum. \nTrudy has returned to the creation of fine art through paper collage.  Using documents and personal papers for storytelling\, she constructs with a goldsmith’s meticulous obsession for detail. Since 2016\, her collages have been exhibited in galleries and museums internationally.  She was awarded a Mid-Atlantic States and NJ Council for the Arts Individual Artist Award and a selected Artist in Residency at Foundation House in Greenwich\, CT. \nArtist Statement\nI explore the intricate layers of time\, memory\, cultural identity\, ecology\, and politics through collage\, using documents\, texts\, maps and an array of personal papers.  The materials function as both image and archive\, carrying their own histories into new configurations. While forming the image\, these materials invite viewers to look beneath the surface\, where words\, dates\, and events recede into shadow and reassemble into fuller and deeper narratives. \nMy practice is rooted in time and memory. It began as a way to honor my late father\, a mathematician\, by forming his portrait from his personal papers—assembling a life through its traces.  Even as underlying narratives were revealed\, his image was truly formed from the sum of all of his parts and his life story was literally written all over his face. Creating many iterations\, I further examined how inherited and found materials could reveal personal and collective histories which shape identity. \nI select materials for their thematic and emotional resonance\, then cut\, arrange\, and layer them in a meditative act of construction. My skillset as a goldsmith informs my technique.  Entirely analog\, my work relies on precision cutting and pasting\, using hand drawn ‘maps’ to lay out the meticulous placement of various papers to tell the story. \nMy subjects range from contemporary and ancestral portraits\, local\, extinct\, and living birds (often situated within conflict zones)\, historical chronicles and classic literature—or simply whatever feels most in need of close introspection. \nAs connections emerge through both intention and chance\, each collage becomes its own historical document. In an era where paper is disappearing\, these works act as time travelers—exploring the past and repurposing them for future reflection. \nArtist Website\nArtist Instagram \nCarol Schepps\nBio\nCarol Sara Schepps is a mixed media artist based in Princeton Junction\, New Jersey. A graduate of Pratt Institute with degrees in Communication Design and Fashion Design\, her diverse creative career spans fashion\, commercial product design\, textile arts\, and fine art. \nCarol’s professional journey began in children’s wear design and manufacturing\, and evolved into custom clothing design for women. She later transitioned into creating modern Art Quilts\, which were represented and sold in high-craft galleries across the United States. Expanding into commercial home products\, Carol also designed successful collections of rugs\, pillows\, and throws for Crate and Barrel. \nIn addition to her studio practice\, Carol is a dedicated community arts advocate and a co-founder of the West Windsor Arts Council. During the pandemic\, her practice shifted into bag-making and creating graphic artwork utilizing paint\, ink\, collage and sewn paper—a transition that laid the groundwork for her current focus of abstract mixed-media art. \nArtist Statement\nWorking in mixed media\, I layer watercolor and inks often along with collage elements including altered Smithsonian magazine pages\, handprinted paper\, and pattern paper. \nThrough this process of layering\, abstract shapes emerge that instinctively resemble a gallery of characters with a variety of personalities. \nI intentionally leave every piece untitled. The artwork as viewed\, is a shape-shifting entity that evolves based on the viewer’s unique personal experience and emotion.

Our creative practices began in the demanding worlds of precision craft—one of us meticulously shaping wire\, metal\, and stone in jewelry design\, and the other engineering form\, movement\, and texture through textiles and fashion. That foundational obsession with strict craftsmanship\, micro-details\, and structural integrity still rules everything we make. \nHowever\, somewhere along the line\, the boundaries of traditional craft began to fray. We morphed into visual arts\, trading functional parameters for purely expressive freedom. Today\, our artwork\, although dissimilar\, brings the obsessive\, tactile discipline of Trudy’s jeweler’s bench and Carol’s fashion studio onto the canvas and into three dimensions. We take our construction seriously\, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Our deep friendship ensures that a thread of humor\, playfulness\, and joy runs through every complex layer\, proving that meticulous discipline and a good laugh can live in the exact same frame. \nAbout the Artists:\nTrudy Borenstein-Sugiura\nBio\nTrudy Borenstein-Sugiura is an award winning designer of fine jewelry and tabletop objects whose work is included in the Permanent Collection of the Smithsonian Institution at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum. \nTrudy has returned to the creation of fine art through paper collage.  Using documents and personal papers for storytelling\, she constructs with a goldsmith’s meticulous obsession for detail. Since 2016\, her collages have been exhibited in galleries and museums internationally.  She was awarded a Mid-Atlantic States and NJ Council for the Arts Individual Artist Award and a selected Artist in Residency at Foundation House in Greenwich\, CT. \nArtist Statement\nI explore the intricate layers of time\, memory\, cultural identity\, ecology\, and politics through collage\, using documents\, texts\, maps and an array of personal papers.  The materials function as both image and archive\, carrying their own histories into new configurations. While forming the image\, these materials invite viewers to look beneath the surface\, where words\, dates\, and events recede into shadow and reassemble into fuller and deeper narratives. \nMy practice is rooted in time and memory. It began as a way to honor my late father\, a mathematician\, by forming his portrait from his personal papers—assembling a life through its traces.  Even as underlying narratives were revealed\, his image was truly formed from the sum of all of his parts and his life story was literally written all over his face. Creating many iterations\, I further examined how inherited and found materials could reveal personal and collective histories which shape identity. \nI select materials for their thematic and emotional resonance\, then cut\, arrange\, and layer them in a meditative act of construction. My skillset as a goldsmith informs my technique.  Entirely analog\, my work relies on precision cutting and pasting\, using hand drawn ‘maps’ to lay out the meticulous placement of various papers to tell the story. \nMy subjects range from contemporary and ancestral portraits\, local\, extinct\, and living birds (often situated within conflict zones)\, historical chronicles and classic literature—or simply whatever feels most in need of close introspection. \nAs connections emerge through both intention and chance\, each collage becomes its own historical document. In an era where paper is disappearing\, these works act as time travelers—exploring the past and repurposing them for future reflection. \nArtist Website\nArtist Instagram \nCarol Schepps\nBio\nCarol Sara Schepps is a mixed media artist based in Princeton Junction\, New Jersey. A graduate of Pratt Institute with degrees in Communication Design and Fashion Design\, her diverse creative career spans fashion\, commercial product design\, textile arts\, and fine art. \nCarol’s professional journey began in children’s wear design and manufacturing\, and evolved into custom clothing design for women. She later transitioned into creating modern Art Quilts\, which were represented and sold in high-craft galleries across the United States. Expanding into commercial home products\, Carol also designed successful collections of rugs\, pillows\, and throws for Crate and Barrel. \nIn addition to her studio practice\, Carol is a dedicated community arts advocate and a co-founder of the West Windsor Arts Council. During the pandemic\, her practice shifted into bag-making and creating graphic artwork utilizing paint\, ink\, collage and sewn paper—a transition that laid the groundwork for her current focus of abstract mixed-media art. \nArtist Statement\nWorking in mixed media\, I layer watercolor and inks often along with collage elements including altered Smithsonian magazine pages\, handprinted paper\, and pattern paper. \nThrough this process of layering\, abstract shapes emerge that instinctively resemble a gallery of characters with a variety of personalities. \nI intentionally leave every piece untitled. The artwork as viewed\, is a shape-shifting entity that evolves based on the viewer’s unique personal experience and emotion.

Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed.\n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. DESCRIPTION:Share your story\, your poetry\, or your prose\, based on the monthly theme!\nStory & Verse provides a warm and welcoming spotlight for both emerging and established artists in our Solley Theater\, an intimate space in the heart of Downtown Princeton. \nJoin us as a performer: \n\nPrepare a story\, poem\, or spoken word piece up to 5 minutes in length and (at least loosely) related to the theme. This month’s theme is “Reverly“\nArrive by 6:45pm to add your name to the hat. No previous experience or pre-registration necessary.\n\nJoin our audience: \n\nTake the elevator or stairs to the Solley Theater\, located on the top floor of our Paul Robeson Center for the Arts.\nOptional: participate from your seat with a Micro Story. Read the printed prompt based on the evening’s theme and respond with a super concise story (just a line or two!) that answers the question. Brass Rabbit will read your story at the mic\, as time allows.\nFind a seat and enjoy the performances. We kick off shortly after 7pm.\n\nQuestions? Shoot us an email. \n \nAbout our host:  \nBrass Rabbit is an artist\, contemporary curator\, and arts administrator based in Trenton\, New Jersey. Rabbit has been creating and hosting poetry\, spoken word\, and storytelling events in the tri-state area for over a decade. As a performer\, the art of storytelling holds a very special place in her heart\, but listening to and supporting others is where she feels most at home. \nHosting the Story & Verse Open Mic at the Arts Council of Princeton could be called a dream job\, but for Rabbit\, the position completely lacks any “work-like” qualities and is more of an outstanding experience she looks forward to each month. Previously\, Rabbit has hosted the Levitt Amp Music Series\, Voice to Ear Festival\, Word on Front Poetry Festival\, independent poetry and storytelling open mics\, and even curated an art exhibition celebrating the art of poetry.
