DESCRIPTION:Alas y Raíces: Princeton Young AchieversCurated by instructor Veronica Olivares-Weber\nOn View: July 11 – 31\, 2026Opening Reception: Saturday\, July 11\, 3-5pm \nLike the monarch butterfly\, each of us carries a story of where we come from and where we are going. Its migration between Canada\, the United States\, and Mexico reflects lives shaped by memory\, family\, change\, and return. \nAlas y Raíces presents work by students in kindergarten through fifth grade at Princeton Public Schools through papier-mâché monarch butterflies and painted butterfly compositions on canvas. The sculpted works reference the monarch’s distinctive orange\, black\, and white pattern\, while the painted works extend into varied colors and forms\, shaped by imagination\, freedom\, and individual expression. \nAs students created these works\, they explored ideas of family\, belonging\, kindness\, unity\, freedom\, and hope. Their work reflects how personal experience informs understanding\, how difference strengthens community\, and how connection and care shape growth. \nThis exhibition is a part of a collaboration between the Arts Council of Princeton and the YMCA\, which together have provided free access to the arts for the Princeton Young Achiever’s after school Program for more than 20 years and lead by teaching artist Verónica Olivares-Weber. \nAbout Veronica Olivares-Weber: Teaching Artist\, Cultural Educator & Community Leader \nVeronica Olivares-Weber\, originally from Mexico\, is a teaching artist and community organizer whose work spans more than two decades at the intersection of art\, education\, and social justice. She studied art history and ceramics classes at Teachers College\, Columbia University\, where she developed a strong foundation in both theory and practice. Deeply connected to her heritage\, her practice is rooted in preserving Latin American art traditions\, storytelling\, and community empowerment through the arts. \nSince 2010\, Olivares-Weber has been a faculty member at the Arts Council of Princeton\, where she teaches visual arts and leads creative programming for the Princeton Young Achievers after-school initiative\, serving students from historically underserved neighborhoods. Her teaching emphasizes traditional and contemporary techniques across a wide range of media\, including ceramics\, sculpture\, papier-mâché\, mixed media\, and painting. Through culturally immersive classes like Spanish Through Art and The Movement of the Muralist\, she fosters creative expression while preserving and celebrating Mexican folk art traditions. \nHer workshops often focus on traditional forms such as sugar skull-making\, embossed tin (hojalata)\, papier-mâché\, and nichos. These hands-on sessions engage learners of all ages and backgrounds in exploring identity\, gratitude\, and cultural heritage through meaningful artistic practice. \nIn addition to her teaching\, Olivares-Weber has curated and co-organized numerous exhibitions and public events\, including over 15 years of Día de los Muertos programming at the Arts Council of Princeton. She is the founder and main organizer of the Festival Cultural Latino\, a celebrated annual event that highlights Latino culture and arts in the Princeton community. Her leadership has also shaped community altars\, installations\, and collaborative public art projects\, including the 2021 Dohm Alley installation. Veronica Olivares-Weber \nFor the past three years\, she served as Artist in Residence at Community Park School\, where she worked closely with students to integrate arts into their learning experience\, emphasizing cultural history and creative expression. \nShe works closely with Princeton University across departments such as theLewis Center for the Arts\, the Effron Center\, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese\, the Department of Art & Archaeology\, the Program for Community-Engaged Scholarship (ProCES)\, and the Pace Center for Civic Engagement. Through these collaborations\, she facilitates workshops\, student-led art projects\, lectures\, and events that bridge academic and local communities while deepening understanding of Latin American art and immigrant experiences. \nOlivares-Weber served as Chair of the Princeton Human Services Commission until 2024 and has served on the boards of the Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund (LALDEF)\, Housing Initiatives of Princeton\, McCarter\, Code Equal\, and the Arts Council of Princeton. She currently serves on the Civil Rights Commission of Princeton. Her work reflects a sustained commitment to equity\, inclusion\, and the preservation of cultural traditions through education and the arts.

DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed.\n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you. \n\nA screen-free singing experience:\n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors\, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. DESCRIPTION:Share your story\, your poetry\, or your prose\, based on the monthly theme!\nStory & Verse provides a warm and welcoming spotlight for both emerging and established artists in our Solley Theater\, an intimate space in the heart of Downtown Princeton. \nJoin us as a performer: \n\nPrepare a story\, poem\, or spoken word piece up to 5 minutes in length and (at least loosely) related to the theme. This month’s theme is “Turn Up the Heat“\nArrive by 6:45pm to add your name to the hat. No previous experience or pre-registration necessary.\n\nJoin our audience: \n\nTake the elevator or stairs to the Solley Theater\, located on the top floor of our Paul Robeson Center for the Arts.\nOptional: participate from your seat with a Micro Story. Read the printed prompt based on the evening’s theme and respond with a super concise story (just a line or two!) that answers the question. DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

Young Jr.On View in our Siegal Gallery: August 4 – August 29\, 2026Opening reception during the August 5 Witherspoon-Jackson Community Princeton Safe Streets event from 5-7pm\nAbout the artists \nAaron Fisher:Princeton\, NJ is where it all began….. My mother says from the time I could hold a crayon\, I was drawing.  Artistic expression comes naturally.  Early influence came from my sister Pat\, who too is an artist\, and she encouraged me to hone my gift.  I attended Middlesex County College\, majoring in Marketing\, Art and Design.  I am currently the Visual Arts mentor for the New Brunswick area branch of ACT-SO (Afro- Academic\, Cultural\, Technological and Scientific Olympics)\, which is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit\, stimulate and encourage high academic and cultural achievement amongst African-American high school students.Working on canvas and wood\, utilizing acrylic paint\, inks and colored pencil\, I focus on the human face layering the various colors to recreate expression\, character and life.  Details matter and with all my pieces\, I carefully attempt to recreate the details that make each face unique.  I have never encountered a dull subject and inspiration is readily available.  I work fervently to create works that express my admiration for the subject matter and in doing so\, I am hopeful that the gazer notices the details but also\, feels…I currently reside in Franklin Park\, NJ with Angela\, my beautiful wife of 30+ years and our daughter\, Kylie. \nFreddie A. Young Jr: \nI am who I am. Not out of arrogance\, but out of return.In harmony with a plan already good\, already written before I showed up to live it.I came from clay\, and one day I’ll return to soil. This body is borrowed. This life is one long season of making memory\, before the memory is all that’s left. My Story is that memory\, held still long enough to look at.My camera is my eye. I capture people through real relationships\, conversations\, time spent\, genuine interaction… All because that’s where intimacy lives. I photograph people in their environment: whatever surrounds them that has shaped who they are. Their vibration. This has brought me into frame with athletes\, poets\, authors\, lifelong friends and most importantly\, the people I meet and choose to honor\, professionally and beautifully.This work is an extension of memory. It’s how I document what I’ve lived. The audience is whoever cares to see the world through my eyes. Alhamdulillah. One Love.

DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed.\n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you. \n\nA screen-free singing experience:\n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors\, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

The exhibition examines how these artists have explored and expanded the ideals articulated in the Declaration of Independence\, “Life\, Liberty\, and the Pursuit of Happiness”\, using art as a powerful vehicle for expression\, resistance\, care\, and community. Pairings of artists from past and present generations will include Faith Ringgold and Bisa Butler\, Selma Burke and Allison Saar\, Mary Lovelace O’Neal and Julie Mehretu\, Betye Saar and Tschabalala Self\, Carrie Mae Weems and LaToya Ruby Frazier\, Laura Wheeler Waring and Jordan Casteel\, Elizabeth Catlett and Kara Walker\, and Howardena Pindell and Shinique Smith. Through these connections\, the exhibition will not only showcase individual artistic voices but also trace a lineage of creative expression that has contributed to shaping and defining American art. \n\n The Pairings: \nFaith Ringgold and Bisa Butler create large-scale works celebrating African American life through a combination of fabric and paint—a medium pioneered by Ringgold and Miriam Schapiro during the early years of the Feminist Art Movement in the 1970s: \n																																																							 \n\nElizabeth Catlett and Kara Walker both explore the heritage of slavery through printmaking\, a medium traditionally associated with social justice and political commentary: \n																																																							 \n\nLaura Wheeler Waring and Jordan Casteel: Waring devoted much of her career to portraying the emerging African American middle class\, while Casteel depicts the everyday lives of a broad spectrum of African Americans\, confidently occupying a wide variety of roles in the 21st century. It is worth noting that this early painting\, created shortly after Waring graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and likely executed while she was still in Paris on the prestigious travel fellowship awarded by PAFA to an outstanding graduate\, depicts two white women. This suggests that Waring had not yet chosen to focus her artistic practice on Black subjects: \n																																																							 \n\nBetye Saar and Tschabalala Self\, artists from two different generations\, both use collage\, distortion\, and caricature to explore themes of social justice and the African American experience of injustice: \n																																																							 \n\nHowardena Pindell and Shinique Smith both use discarded\, nontraditional materials to create works of art\, drawing an analogy to the experiences of people who are often overlooked or cast aside\, yet possess immense value: \n																																																							 \n\nMore pairings to come. \n\nAbout the curators:\nJudith K. BrodskyActivist\, artist\, curator\, writer Judith K. Brodsky is Distinguished Professor Emerita\, Department of Art and Design\, Rutgers University. She is a works-on-paper artist with prints and drawings in many museum collections worldwide and the founder of the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper\, now the Brodsky Center at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The Brodsky Center\, established in 1986\, is known for its activist pioneer mission to further opportunities for women-identified\, BIPOC\, and non-binary artists. An exhibition documenting the years it was at Rutgers was on view at the Zimmerli Art Museum\, Fall 2023. She was also co-founder of The Douglass Center for Women in the Arts and Humanities at Rutgers University in 2006. As a curator or co-curator\, she has organized many exhibitions including The Fertile Crescent: Gender\, Art\, and Society (2012) and the Philadelphia city-wide print festival\, Philagrafika (2010)\, three decades of exhibitions for the Rutgers Women Artists; Restoring the Art and Lives of a Circle of Five Forgotten Black Artists (2022); and (re)FOCUS: Philadelphia Focuses on Women in the Visual Arts\, 1974-2024 (2024). She is past national president of ArtTable\, College Art Association\, Women’s Caucus for Art\, former board chair\, New York Foundation for the Arts\, current board member\, Print Center New York\, and a former dean and associate provost at Rutgers. Brodsky writes on women artists and printmaking. Her most recent book is Dismantling the Patriarchy Bit by Bit: Art\, Feminism and Digital Technology (Bloomsbury 2022). A book on the history of the United States Feminist Art Movement focusing on the activist art historians and curators rather than the artists is due out in early 2027 (Bloomsbury Academic). \nRhinold L. PonderRhinold Lamar Ponder\, the Executive Director of Art Against Racism\, is an artist\, curator\, author\, activist and lawyer.  He is the founder and Executive Director of Art Against Racism\, a 501(c)(3)\, based in Princeton\, New Jersey. AAR’s mission is to leverage the arts to promote the creation of an anti-racist\, just and equitable society.An independent curator\, Rhinold has worked on several exhibitions and projects including those with Judith K. DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed.\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you. \nA screen-free singing experience:\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors\, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. Ponder\nOn View: Saturday\, August 29 – Saturday\, October 3\, 2026Opening reception: wednesday\, September 9 from 5-7pm\npanel discussion: thursday\, September 17 from 5:30-6:30pm at princeton university art museum. learn more.\n \nABOUT THE EXHIBITION:Echoes in Our Bones will explore how themes of identity\, history\, and cultural resilience have endured and transformed across generations. The exhibition examines how these artists have explored and expanded the ideals articulated in the Declaration of Independence\, “Life\, Liberty\, and the Pursuit of Happiness”\, using art as a powerful vehicle for expression\, resistance\, care\, and community. Pairings of artists from past and present generations will include Faith Ringgold and Bisa Butler\, Selma Burke and Allison Saar\, Mary Lovelace O’Neal and Julie Mehretu\, Betye Saar and Tschabalala Self\, Carrie Mae Weems and LaToya Ruby Frazier\, Laura Wheeler Waring and Jordan Casteel\, Elizabeth Catlett and Kara Walker\, and Howardena Pindell and Shinique Smith. Through these connections\, the exhibition will not only showcase individual artistic voices but also trace a lineage of creative expression that has contributed to shaping and defining American art. \n\n The Pairings: \nFaith Ringgold and Bisa Butler create large-scale works celebrating African American life through a combination of fabric and paint—a medium pioneered by Ringgold and Miriam Schapiro during the early years of the Feminist Art Movement in the 1970s: \n  \n\nElizabeth Catlett and Kara Walker both explore the heritage of slavery through printmaking\, a medium traditionally associated with social justice and political commentary: \n  \n\nLaura Wheeler Waring and Jordan Casteel: Waring devoted much of her career to portraying the emerging African American middle class\, while Casteel depicts the everyday lives of a broad spectrum of African Americans\, confidently occupying a wide variety of roles in the 21st century. It is worth noting that this early painting\, created shortly after Waring graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and likely executed while she was still in Paris on the prestigious travel fellowship awarded by PAFA to an outstanding graduate\, depicts two white women. This suggests that Waring had not yet chosen to focus her artistic practice on Black subjects: \n  \n\nBetye Saar and Tschabalala Self\, artists from two different generations\, both use collage\, distortion\, and caricature to explore themes of social justice and the African American experience of injustice: \n  \n\nHowardena Pindell and Shinique Smith both use discarded\, nontraditional materials to create works of art\, drawing an analogy to the experiences of people who are often overlooked or cast aside\, yet possess immense value: \n  \n\nMore pairings to come. \n\nAbout the curators:\nJudith K. BrodskyActivist\, artist\, curator\, writer Judith K. Brodsky is Distinguished Professor Emerita\, Department of Art and Design\, Rutgers University. She is a works-on-paper artist with prints and drawings in many museum collections worldwide and the founder of the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper\, now the Brodsky Center at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The Brodsky Center\, established in 1986\, is known for its activist pioneer mission to further opportunities for women-identified\, BIPOC\, and non-binary artists. An exhibition documenting the years it was at Rutgers was on view at the Zimmerli Art Museum\, Fall 2023. She was also co-founder of The Douglass Center for Women in the Arts and Humanities at Rutgers University in 2006. As a curator or co-curator\, she has organized many exhibitions including The Fertile Crescent: Gender\, Art\, and Society (2012) and the Philadelphia city-wide print festival\, Philagrafika (2010)\, three decades of exhibitions for the Rutgers Women Artists; Restoring the Art and Lives of a Circle of Five Forgotten Black Artists (2022); and (re)FOCUS: Philadelphia Focuses on Women in the Visual Arts\, 1974-2024 (2024). She is past national president of ArtTable\, College Art Association\, Women’s Caucus for Art\, former board chair\, New York Foundation for the Arts\, current board member\, Print Center New York\, and a former dean and associate provost at Rutgers. Brodsky writes on women artists and printmaking. Her most recent book is Dismantling the Patriarchy Bit by Bit: Art\, Feminism and Digital Technology (Bloomsbury 2022). A book on the history of the United States Feminist Art Movement focusing on the activist art historians and curators rather than the artists is due out in early 2027 (Bloomsbury Academic). \nRhinold L. PonderRhinold Lamar Ponder\, the Executive Director of Art Against Racism\, is an artist\, curator\, author\, activist and lawyer.  He is the founder and Executive Director of Art Against Racism\, a 501(c)(3)\, based in Princeton\, New Jersey. AAR’s mission is to leverage the arts to promote the creation of an anti-racist\, just and equitable society.An independent curator\, Rhinold has worked on several exhibitions and projects including those with Judith K. Brodsky.  Together they have curated Memorial\, Monument\, Movement (2020)\, a groundbreaking exhibition showcasing a unique archive of personal and communal art created during the pandemic in response to the cultural and political challenges of extrajudicial killings of people of color; Retrieving the Life and Art of James Wilson Edwards and a Circle of Black Artists (Arts Council of Princeton\, 2022); Freedoms Reframed: Art on the Edges of the Constitution (Trent House Museum\, 2026); Echoes in Our Bones (Arts Council of Princeton\, 2026); and Voices in Print (Morven Museum and Garden\, 2026).  As Executive Director of Art Against Racism\, he has organized or curated the following exhibitions: Not Afraid with the West Windsor Arts Council (2025); Manifesting Beloved Community exhibitions in partnership with the West Windsor Arts Council (2020-2024 ); The Art of Black Joy (Monroe Township Library\, 2024);Earth Song Refrained (Princeton Public Library\, 2023 ); and Beyond Freedom (Morven Museum and Garden\, 2023).Rhinold’s writings have appeared in numerous publications including the New York Times\, the Trenton Times and the City Sun.  In 1997\, he co-edited\, with his wife\, Michele Tuck-Ponder\, two critically acclaimed compilations of sermons\, published by Crown\, entitled Wisdom of the Word: Faith and Wisdom of the Word: Love. \n  \nThis project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. \nThank you to our sponsors:\nMUSE:\nTIMOTHY M. SUMMARY:Jersey Art Meetup (JAM)
DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.
