Celebrating El Día de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, has been an Arts Council tradition for over 20 years!

Observed in Mexico and throughout the world in early November, the holiday is a time for family and friends to remember loved ones who have passed. Traditions include parades and the construction of private altars using sugar skulls, marigolds, and favorite foods in memory of those we’ve lost.

We invite you to learn about this culturally rich holiday by joining us for a free, family-friendly festival at the Princeton Shopping Center. We’ll create crafts inspired by traditional Mexican folk art, decorate sugar skulls, enjoy live music by a mariachi band, enjoy brews from Triumph, create a community altar, and more!

Celebracion del Día de Muertos ha sido una tradición del Arts Council por más de 20 años.

Celebrado en México y en todo el mundo a principios de Noviembre, esta festividad es un momento para que familiares y amigos recuerden a sus seres queridos fallecidos. Las tradiciones incluyen desfiles y la construcción de altares privados con calaveritas de azúcar, cempasúchil y sus platillos favoritos en memoria de quienes hemos perdido.

Los invitamos a conocer esta festividad de gran riqueza cultural a través de un festival gratuito y familiar en la plaza del Princeton Shopping Center . Crearemos artesanías inspiradas en el arte popular mexicano tradicional, decoraremos calaveritas de azúcar, disfrutaremos de música en vivo con mariachis, crearemos un altar comunitario y mucho más.

A community altar has always been a meaningful part of our annual El Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration. Day of the Dead altars, or ofrendas, are set up to honor loved ones who have passed. Altars are the most prominent feature in the celebration because they show the souls the way to their home and traditions vary by region.

This year, we will gather on Nov 1, from 1–3pm at the Princeton Shopping Center. We invite you now to share images of loved ones who have passed to be included in our community altar. The photos collected will be used to create a collage wrap around—similar to the example shown above.

Deadline is October 18.

Un altar comunitario siempre ha sido una parte importante de nuestra celebración anual del Día de Muertos. Los altares, u ofrendas, se instalan para honrar a los seres queridos fallecidos. Los altares son el elemento más destacado de la celebración porque indican a las almas el camino a su hogar, y las tradiciones varían según la región.

Este año, nos reuniremos el 1 de noviembre, de 1:00 a 3:00pm, en el Princeton Shopping Center, y los invitamos a compartir imágenes de sus seres queridos fallecidos para incluirlas en nuestro altar comunitario. Las fotos recopiladas se utilizarán para crear un collage digital envolvente, similar al ejemplo que se muestra aquí.

La fecha límite es el 18 de Octubre.
