My mother says from the time I could hold a crayon\, I was drawing.  Artistic expression comes naturally.  Early influence came from my sister Pat\, who too is an artist\, and she encouraged me to hone my gift.  I attended Middlesex County College\, majoring in Marketing\, Art and Design.  I am currently the Visual Arts mentor for the New Brunswick area branch of ACT-SO (Afro- Academic\, Cultural\, Technological and Scientific Olympics)\, which is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit\, stimulate and encourage high academic and cultural achievement amongst African-American high school students.Working on canvas and wood\, utilizing acrylic paint\, inks and colored pencil\, I focus on the human face layering the various colors to recreate expression\, character and life.  Details matter and with all my pieces\, I carefully attempt to recreate the details that make each face unique.  I have never encountered a dull subject and inspiration is readily available.  I work fervently to create works that express my admiration for the subject matter and in doing so\, I am hopeful that the gazer notices the details but also\, feels…I currently reside in Franklin Park\, NJ with Angela\, my beautiful wife of 30+ years and our daughter\, Kylie. \nFreddie A. Young Jr.: \nI am who I am. Not out of arrogance\, but out of return.In harmony with a plan already good\, already written before I showed up to live it.I came from clay\, and one day I’ll return to soil. This body is borrowed. This life is one long season of making memory\, before the memory is all that’s left. My Story is that memory\, held still long enough to look at.My camera is my eye. I capture people through real relationships\, conversations\, time spent\, genuine interaction… All because that’s where intimacy lives. I photograph people in their environment: whatever surrounds them that has shaped who they are. Their vibration. This has brought me into frame with athletes\, poets\, authors\, lifelong friends and most importantly\, the people I meet and choose to honor\, professionally and beautifully.This work is an extension of memory. Bring garments that no longer serve you\, and the fashion fates will guide you to new-to-you pieces destined to be yours. \nWe all have a piece of nice clothing that just didn’t work out for whatever reason. It might not fit your size\, your life\, or maybe your style has just evolved. Whatever the reason\, special clothes don’t have to be stuffed in the back of the closet or wind up in a landfill. Why not swap them for something new and see if your piece could become someone else’s wardrobe staple? \nAt this community clothing swap\, you’ll learn Stylebook’s tips and tricks for maximizing your wardrobe and finding your unique style. \nHOW TO PARTICIPATE: \nIt’s a one-for-one swap: for each piece of clothing you bring\, you can take one home! All pieces are first-come\, first-served. \nPlease drop off clothing and accessories between 11-11:45am.The swapping will begin at 12pm. The swap is first-come\, first-served: the earlier you arrive\, the more there will be to choose from! \nWhen you arrive\, you will check-in your items receive one ticket per item to swap. For example\, if you bring three articles of clothing\, you’ll receive three tickets to trade for three “new-to-you” items. You can bring up to 10 items! Please bring them on a hanger if possible. \nTHE DOs: \n– Quality over quantity. You can bring up to 10 pieces\, but there is no minimum. Bring items you’d be excited to find! \n– Consider bringing your own reusable shopping bag to take your items home. Thanks for embracing the sustainability at the heart of clothing swaps. \nTHE DON’Ts: \n– Damaged garments. Kindly check your pieces for rips\, stains\, or missing pieces. \n– Please stick to versatile and non-personalized pieces. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library.
