DESCRIPTION:The Traveling Waffle House Interviews\nBy artist Sheryl Bassman\nOn view: Mar 21 – Apr 18\nOpening: Sat\, Mar 21 | 3-5pm \n\nExhibition Statement:\nI have had an obsession with the Waffle House and its ageless presence for as long as I can\nremember. I spent the majority of my life waitressing and traveling around the country and have\nhad the greatest experiences meeting people from all different walks of life. I’ve learned that one\nwears many hats as a waitress working with the public. You are a therapist listening to\nstrangers’ problems; a salesperson selling items on the menu; a mediator between the customer\nand cooks when the food comes out wrong; a housekeeper keeping the restaurant clean and\nsanitized; a cashier responsible for bills and payments. All of this must be done with a smile on\nyour face. Despite all this\, serving is commonly looked down upon as a mediocre job and not a\ncareer – something one does when they cannot find any other work.\nThrough words and portraits\, I give recognition to each waitress/waiter. Each portrait is\nillustrated in ballpoint pen that waitress/ers use\, and completed on bold yet simple black and\nyellow Waffle House colors and is accompanied by a short story of what they shared about\nthemselves to me.

DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

Open to everyone upon registration. \nAbout the movie:In 2014\, one year before the Charlie Hebdo attacks\, filmmaker Stéphanie Valloatto collaborated with Plantu\, a longtime cartoonist for Le Monde\, to create a documentary about 12 crazy\, amazing\, funny and tragic political cartoonists from all around the world defend democracy at the risk of their lives and have fun with a pencil as only weapon. They are French\, Tunisian\, Russian\, Mexican\, American\, Chinese\, Algerian\, Burkinabese\, Ivorian\, Venezuelan\, Israelian and Palestinian. SUMMARY:Sounds of Color
DESCRIPTION:Sounds of ColorBy artist AidaOn view: May 2 – 30Opening: Sat\, May 9 | 3-5pm\nArtist Statement:When we muse on the beauty of art\, we associate it with the oculus of the soul\, the eye\, as the periscope to the soul. It is a perceived reality. Color goes beyond what the eye can see. It connects directly to what the soul sees. When the soul sees\, it deeply feels the beauty before it. Maybe no two people see or feel color the same way? Color is a fantasy of communication between the eye and the soul. Color works like rhythm and wavelength\, it plays with our understanding of lumen and refraction of light. It can be simultaneously harmonious and discordant\, like green against red\, yellow beside violet. Like a musical composition it may blend without confrontation. It changes desire and emotion. Unlike music\, visual color must permeate the soul\, maybe in a slower way. We associate color with memory and emotion. I work mindfully with saturated color boldness to reveal another journey of modern color application. \nMuch of my inspiration came about through meditation and spiritual connections to the sounds of wildlife\, water and musical rhythms. In 2025\, I participated in an artist residency in Beaumont de Pertuis\, Luberon\, where I created works en plein air. They are studies of light and color en Provence. \nArtist Bio:Cuban born\, Aida immigrated to the US in 1968 at the age of three. She grew up in Elizabeth\, NJ\, where her family settled. From a young age\, Aida loved to draw and began to paint as an undergraduate while attending Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts. She flourished in the art school environment and was considered a true “painter’s painter” by her peers\, receiving a BFA degree in 1990. \nThroughout her career\, Aida’s work has been exhibited in numerous regional\, national and international juried shows throughout the US and the Tri-State area of NY\, NJ and PA. She was recently selected for and exhibited at a juried National Works on Paper 2024 exhibition held at Long Beach Island Foundation of Art and Science\, as well as the 47th International Water media Exhibition at WASH-H in Houston\, Texas\, where she received a Merit Award. Aida has given workshops and demos for the Garden State Watercolor Society and Warren County Arts\, NJ\, and has taught classes and given workshops at AOY Art Center\, in Yardley\, PA. Aida paints in her home studio in High Bridge\, NJ\, where she has lived with her husband since 1997\, having raised two daughters. www.aidawatercolors.com

DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed.\n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \n\nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\n\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you. \n\nA screen-free singing experience:\n\nPop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors\, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. DESCRIPTION:Princeton Comic Makers presents: JERSEY ART MEETUPS (JAM)\, a weekly social event connecting creatives within the greater Central Jersey area through a shared passion for sequential art and new media.  Attendees may use this open workshop space to draw\, write\, and develop their own artwork\, with an opportunity to receive peer review and feedback from other members if desired. Illustrators\, animators\, writers\, and generalists are all welcome to join and discuss their art and career goals\, share learning resources\, promote current projects\, or find friends and collaborators. Together\, we aspire to cultivate a local community that keeps artists motivated towards achieving their dreams! \n\nOpen to ages 16+ of any skill level interested in any form of narrative art and design (i.e. Animation\, Concept Art\, Comics\, Game Design\, Picture Books\, etc.)\nGroup meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Casual attendance is accepted!\nBringing own materials is highly encouraged. Some basic materials are provided – paper\, pencils\, etc. – but please bring any tools necessary to help you create (i.e. drawing tablets\, sketchbooks\, etc.)\n\nWho we are: Sponsored by artist and educator Ronah Harris\, Princeton Comic Makers is an artist collective founded in 2023 by local illustrators Christina Castro\, Suyang Gong\, and Masha Zhdanova after noticing a lack of in-person community spaces for NJ-based artists specializing in narrative arts and communications design. Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.

DESCRIPTION:Tales from the Disenchanted Forest\nBy Artists: Elizabeth Jordan & Terri Fraser\nOn view: May 2 – 30\nOpening: Sat\, May 9 | 3-5pm\n  \nJoint Artist Statement: \nArtists Terri Fraser and Elizabeth Jordan create visually distinct sculptural work grounded in a shared commitment to process\, material\, and the layered narratives that emerge through making. Frasers work moves toward an ethereal\, immersive interpretation of the natural world\, shaped by a practice rooted in the woods\, while Jordans is informed by an urban environment and grounded in the presence of individual animal forms. Both practices are rich in detail and guided by an attention to how systems hold—and fail—within the environment. Responding to the ongoing degradation of the natural world\, their work reflects a deep awareness of the reciprocal relationship between flora and fauna\, offering an experience that is both attentive and quietly unsettling. \nFraser constructs an immersive forest through layered materials drawn from the natural world and the remnants of human use. These elements are woven\, knotted\, and coiled into shifting forms that hold a restrained presence while remaining open\, skeletal\, and in flux. The installation unfolds through clusters\, clearings\, and suspended canopies\, creating shifting pathways that move around and through the work. Rather than replicating nature\, the forms register its strain—caught between growth and collapse\, structure and fragility—suggesting an ecosystem no longer in balance. \nJordan’s creatures emerge through a layered and material-driven process\, inhabiting a space between beauty and unease that reflects the shifting relationship between humans and animals. At times strange and not fully identifiable\, they communicate through gesture\, posture\, and surface—where cuts\, seams\, and scars hold traces of their making. Their presence suggests both memory and displacement\, as if once of the forest yet now shaped by a human world. In their stillness and outward gaze\, they hold a tension between what has been altered and what endures. \nThe juxtaposition of these two perspectives creates a space shaped by uncertainty\, beauty\, and quiet tension. Working from different relationships to the natural world\, Fraser and Jordan bring their practices into proximity\, where their differences generate a subtle but persistent dialogue. Within this exchange\, an intangible connection emerges—held in the vibration between past\, present\, and what might still be possible. The Disenchanted Forest does not resolve this tension\, but allows it to remain. \n

DESCRIPTION:Sounds of ColorBy artist AidaOn view: May 2 – 30Opening: Sat\, May 9 | 3-5pm\nArtist Statement:When we muse on the beauty of art\, we associate it with the oculus of the soul\, the eye\, as the periscope to the soul. It is a perceived reality. Color goes beyond what the eye can see. It connects directly to what the soul sees. When the soul sees\, it deeply feels the beauty before it. Maybe no two people see or feel color the same way? Color is a fantasy of communication between the eye and the soul. Color works like rhythm and wavelength\, it plays with our understanding of lumen and refraction of light. It can be simultaneously harmonious and discordant\, like green against red\, yellow beside violet. Like a musical composition it may blend without confrontation. It changes desire and emotion. Unlike music\, visual color must permeate the soul\, maybe in a slower way. We associate color with memory and emotion. I work mindfully with saturated color boldness to reveal another journey of modern color application. \nMuch of my inspiration came about through meditation and spiritual connections to the sounds of wildlife\, water and musical rhythms. In 2025\, I participated in an artist residency in Beaumont de Pertuis\, Luberon\, where I created works en plein air. They are studies of light and color en Provence. \nArtist Bio:Cuban born\, Aida immigrated to the US in 1968 at the age of three. She grew up in Elizabeth\, NJ\, where her family settled. From a young age\, Aida loved to draw and began to paint as an undergraduate while attending Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts. She flourished in the art school environment and was considered a true “painter’s painter” by her peers\, receiving a BFA degree in 1990. \nThroughout her career\, Aida’s work has been exhibited in numerous regional\, national and international juried shows throughout the US and the Tri-State area of NY\, NJ and PA. She was recently selected for and exhibited at a juried National Works on Paper 2024 exhibition held at Long Beach Island Foundation of Art and Science\, as well as the 47th International Water media Exhibition at WASH-H in Houston\, Texas\, where she received a Merit Award. Aida has given workshops and demos for the Garden State Watercolor Society and Warren County Arts\, NJ\, and has taught classes and given workshops at AOY Art Center\, in Yardley\, PA. Aida paints in her home studio in High Bridge\, NJ\, where she has lived with her husband since 1997\, having raised two daughters. www.aidawatercolors.com

Although we create independently\, we often exhibit together at events such as MoCCA Fest\, Anime NYC\, and Camden Comic Con. Our weekly study group motivated us to strive towards completing projects and working towards professional goals\, so we hope more people can benefit from this club! \nChristina Castro is a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist who graduated from Pratt Institute (2018) with a BFA in Digital Arts (2D Animation) and a minor in Creative Writing. Past clients include Smashbits Animation\, gal-dem zine\, and Bad Robot. Christina also currently organizes and leads the production management of several indie charity zines\, collaborating with writers\, illustrators\, and musicians all around the world. Suyang Gong is a fine artist and illustrator who graduated from Rutgers (2021) with a BFA in Fine Arts. She has formerly worked as a teaching assistant at the Sharron Art Center for 3 years\, tutoring students in refining technical drawing skills. Suyang also specializes in traditional media\, often using materials like graphite\, ink\, and oil paint to create dynamic works. Masha Zhdanova is a freelance writer\, editor\, and illustrator who graduated from SCAD (2019) with a BFA in Sequential Art and recently completed her MFA in Cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies (2022). She was a teaching assistant for two Winter workshops at CCS and has taught comics classes for kids at the Princeton Public Library. Masha’s clients include Publisher’s Weekly\, Women Write About Comics\, and Polygon\, and she also currently edits content for The Anime Herald.
