DESCRIPTION:Paul Mordetsky is Moving to MiamiArtworks by Paul MordetskyOn view: June 5 – 15Opening: Fri\, June 5 | 5-7pm\nThis special pop-up exhibition invites audiences to explore and collect original works by renowned Hightstown artist Paul Mordetsky before his move from New Jersey to Florida. Over the course of his career\, Mordetsky has worked in both portraiture and landscape\, with landscape becoming his primary focus in recent years. His draw toward landscape stems from both metaphorical and formal interests – he is pulled to expansive forms in luminous light. His works transport viewers into spaces where the “where” becomes secondary to mood\, atmosphere\, and emptiness. \nThis limited-time sale will feature framed and unframed paintings at accessible price points\, with a portion of proceeds benefiting ACP’s community programs. \nAbout the artist:Paul Mordetsky received his BFA. in painting from the Philadelphia College of Art (now\, The University Of The Arts) in 1976. Paul has had solo or featured shows\, at The Arts Council of Princeton\, The Artists’ Gallery; The Ruth Morpeth Gallery; The Trenton City Museum; The Peddie School; Mercer County Community College; and the Gross McCleaf and Rosenfeld galleries in Philadelphia\, PA.Group exhibition venues include national and regional shows such as “The Phillips Mill Annual”\, The Philadelphia Sketch Club “Small Works Annual”\, “Urban Aspects” at The Principle Gallery\, Alexandria; “Sight/Unseen” at Abend Gallery\, Denver; “Landscape Today” at The Harrison Center\, Indianapolis; The Salmagundi Club\, NYC; The Center For Contemporary Art\, NJ; Viewpoints – Studio Montclair at Aljira; The College of New Jersey; Naples Art Association National Art Exhibition; The Trenton City Museum\,; New Jersey City University\, and a host of other group shows. Paul has been the recipient of numerous prizes at various regional shows. At the end of 2024\, he retired from Mercer County Community College\, where he had been an adjunct assistant professor of fine for 25 years. Paul also taught high school at Rutgers Prep\, multiple grade levels at The Princeton Latin Academy\, and at various art centers (including The Arts Council of Princeton). DESCRIPTION:Tales from the Disenchanted ForestBy Artists: Elizabeth Jordan & Terri FraserOn view: May 2 – 30Opening: Sat\, May 9 | 3-5pm \n\nJoint Artist Statement: \nArtists Terri Fraser and Elizabeth Jordan create visually distinct sculptural work grounded in a shared commitment to process\, material\, and the layered narratives that emerge through making. Frasers work moves toward an ethereal\, immersive interpretation of the natural world\, shaped by a practice rooted in the woods\, while Jordans is informed by an urban environment and grounded in the presence of individual animal forms. Both practices are rich in detail and guided by an attention to how systems hold—and fail—within the environment. Responding to the ongoing degradation of the natural world\, their work reflects a deep awareness of the reciprocal relationship between flora and fauna\, offering an experience that is both attentive and quietly unsettling. \nFraser constructs an immersive forest through layered materials drawn from the natural world and the remnants of human use. These elements are woven\, knotted\, and coiled into shifting forms that hold a restrained presence while remaining open\, skeletal\, and in flux. The installation unfolds through clusters\, clearings\, and suspended canopies\, creating shifting pathways that move around and through the work. Rather than replicating nature\, the forms register its strain—caught between growth and collapse\, structure and fragility—suggesting an ecosystem no longer in balance. \nJordan’s creatures emerge through a layered and material-driven process\, inhabiting a space between beauty and unease that reflects the shifting relationship between humans and animals. At times strange and not fully identifiable\, they communicate through gesture\, posture\, and surface—where cuts\, seams\, and scars hold traces of their making. Their presence suggests both memory and displacement\, as if once of the forest yet now shaped by a human world. In their stillness and outward gaze\, they hold a tension between what has been altered and what endures. \nThe juxtaposition of these two perspectives creates a space shaped by uncertainty\, beauty\, and quiet tension. Working from different relationships to the natural world\, Fraser and Jordan bring their practices into proximity\, where their differences generate a subtle but persistent dialogue. Within this exchange\, an intangible connection emerges—held in the vibration between past\, present\, and what might still be possible. The Disenchanted Forest does not resolve this tension\, but allows it to remain.

It must be discovered\, dug\, used in its raw state – or sometimes\, refined – and then tested. Unlike commercially processed clay\, wild clay enables the maker to tap into the unique characteristics of a specific place — its colors\, textures\, and material properties — revealing the distinct identity of the local landscape. \nClay is intrinsically linked to anthropology: we understand much about societies of the past through their use of clay. Local “wild” clay offers discovery of local history\, ecology\, geology\, science\, and a contemporary view of art. In most cases local wild clay is infused with such color and character incomparable to commercial clay. \nWorking with wild clay fosters a deeper connection to the long lineage of makers who\, for thousands of years\, shaped and reshaped their worlds through this material. It offers a way to step outside the relentless cycle of consumerism and mass production\, reminding us that art and ecology are intertwined and fostering awareness of our materials\, where they come from\, and our impact on the land. \nAbout the curators:\n\nJohn Reinking\nJohn Reinking is a New Jersey based ceramic artist whose work focuses on harvesting local materials to create functional and sculptural ceramic work. Reinking embraces clay in its rawest sense — from locally dug earth to refined stoneware — and fires in his woodkiln. His pieces bear the mark of fire\, ash\, and flame\, transforming simple forms into vessels of permanence and ritual.
