Community Workshop with Onome Olotu, Artist-in-Residence

April 22 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

Want to step into the past? The Princeton community is invited to join in a free art-making workshop with our spring Artist-in-Residence Onome Olotu.

During her residency, Onome has created individual 8×10″ pre-printed panels of Princeton-area historical landmarks. Participants of this drop-in style workshop will embellish the panels with their own ‘history’ to become a part of Princeton past. Each individual work will be assembled into one large community ‘postcard’, to be displayed in August 2023 during the annual Witherspoon-Jackson Neighborhood Joint Effort/Safe Streets event.

Onome will provide printed postage stamps and postmark stencils to ‘stamp’ your postcard Participants are encouraged to bring personal photographs of themselves, family, or friends to use (not larger than 5 inches; photocopying is available)Written notes, letters, a few sentences of poetry, can be included on a postcard and are perfect to bring with you. All items should be small and light enough to fit on the 8×10 paper and will become a permanent part of this community art project. Some materials can be provided if needed.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to not only work with a young, exciting artist, but to be a part of a community art project that will connect the present to the past.

Come and go, or stay for the duration of the workshop. RSVPs are appreciated, but not required. Workshop is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Musical Minds: 9 mo – 2 years

May 4 @ 10:00 am - 10:30 am

Caretaker and child class to introduce music in a fun and engaging atmosphere. We do this through sing-alongs, light musical theory instruction, dance, and games.

Music helps behavioral and emotional health, literacy and children do better overall in school. While there are many benefits for learning music young, it’s also a fun and exciting activity that parent/caregiver and child can enjoy together!

Students 9 months – 2 years and their caretakers will experience lively sing-alongs, a gentle introduction to musical theory, have fun dance sessions, and learn through interactive games. This is a great way for caretakers to bond, socialize with other parents and introduce music to their little ones!

This half-hour session is held in partnership with Stibol Music and is recommended for toddlers of 9 mo – 2 years. Please note there is a session for children 3-5 years of age immediately following.

Register in advance for 6-class course: $120
Drop-in and pay in-person: $25
