In Whose Image?
Valerie Huhn

Opening Reception: Saturday, October 7 | 3-5pm

Valerie Huhn’s solo exhibition, In Whose Image?, includes a variety of the artist’s large-scale works which reflect the artist’s concern with social justice for herself and others for whom it remains elusive. Her work reflects on identity – personal, cultural and collective – while introducing themes of freedom, imprisonment, neurodiversity and acts of defiance in the presence of power. Huhn’s mixed media artworks range from sculpture to installation and works on paper, frequently incorporating repurposed or unorthodox materials such as metal fencing, books and furniture. She often reconstitutes unusual materials into vignettes that introduce new narratives while evoking the cultural residue of the materials to achieve overlapping meanings. Working in a repetitive fashion, she meticulously applies paint with her fingertips in sweeping arrangements of lines and shapes, or affixes pins and sequins to found objects to fully cover the surfaces. The result is a dizzying array of patterns and reflections that mediate the difficult knowledge addressed while concomitantly calling attention to the issues at stake. The exhibition is curated by Jeanne Brasile.

Musical Minds: 9 mo – 2 years

May 11 @ 10:00 am - 10:30 am

Caretaker and child class to introduce music in a fun and engaging atmosphere. We do this through sing-alongs, light musical theory instruction, dance, and games.

Music helps behavioral and emotional health, literacy and children do better overall in school. While there are many benefits for learning music young, it’s also a fun and exciting activity that parent/caregiver and child can enjoy together!

Students 9 months – 2 years and their caretakers will experience lively sing-alongs, a gentle introduction to musical theory, have fun dance sessions, and learn through interactive games. This is a great way for caretakers to bond, socialize with other parents and introduce music to their little ones!

This half-hour session is held in partnership with Stibol Music and is recommended for toddlers of 9 mo – 2 years. Please note there is a session for children 3-5 years of age immediately following.

Register in advance for 6-class course: $120
Drop-in and pay in-person: $25
