A Place Called Flourish
Tasha Branham

September 9 – 30, 2023
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 9 | 3-5pm

Step into the serene beauty of A Place Called Flourish, where vibrant colors and captivating narratives intertwine, reflecting the transformative power of grace. This multidisciplinary solo exhibit, featuring award-winning artist Tasha Branham, celebrates the journey towards healing and liberation, incorporating digital illustrations, acrylic paintings on wood and organic paper, and painted stories on ornate brass mirrors.

Tasha refers to Black women as flowers to highlight their inherent beauty, delicate strength, and purpose within creation. Just as flowers bring color and vibrancy to the environment, Tasha believes Black women radiate beauty and grace, while their resilience mirrors the ability of flowers to thrive amidst challenging conditions, ultimately blooming and fulfilling their unique purpose in life. By drawing this parallel, Tasha emphasizes the profound connection between Black women, nature, and the transformative power of embracing one’s true identity and purpose.

Within this enchanting “garden,” flourishing blooms and delicate petals serve as vivid reminders of God’s creation and the profound lessons found within it. Each artwork tells a story of triumph over adversity, as Black women rediscover their identity and reconnect with their childlike faith and imagination.

Radiant colors, from soft pastels to rich jewel tones, harmonize to symbolize the vibrant gardens of life, where grace intertwines with resilience and permeates with every dollop of paint and digital stroke. Through art’s transformative embrace, visitors are invited to embark on a soul-stirring journey of self-discovery, guided by the whispers of divine restoration.

A Place Called Flourish beckons all who seek solace and inspiration. It is a celebration of abundant grace, offering a message of hope, love, while helping Black women experience the freedom to unfurl.
