This summer’s program, in conjunction with many Princeton businesses, community leaders, community organizations and citizens is a constant reminder that the Witherspoon Jackson Community’s history is Princeton, New Jersey’s and some of America’s most important founding history. This celebration of Princeton’s 20th Historic District will run from Friday, August 2nd – Sunday, August 11th and will be held at various sites and venues in Princeton.
The theme of the 2024 Joint Effort Princeton Witherspoon Jackson Community Safe Streets Summer Program is REFLECTIONS ON PAUL ROBESON AND THE WITHERSPOON JACKSON COMMUNITY. Each day of the community programming will be named after and highlight an important Black personality in Princeton and the Witherspoon Jackson Community history. Black community heroes and sheroes like Ruth Parker, Donald Johnson, Frank Wells, Doris Burrell, Laura Wooten, John Young as well as the Witherspoon Jackson Community will be acknowledged.
On August 7, the Arts Council is honored to host Doris Burrell Day, featuring the Jim Floyd Memorial Community Discussion on Paul Robeson, the Chip Fisher Memorial Art Exhibit, and a Scholarship & Community Award Presentation.
