Interwoven Stories is a community-based narrative stitching project that began in March 2016 with the opening of Every Fiber of Being in the ACP’s Taplin Gallery. The project was created and facilitated by Diana Weymar, the Arts Council’s 2016 Artist-in-Residence, and has enjoyed the amazing support of the entire Arts Council staff, the Princeton Public Library, community groups, volunteer stitchers, and over two hundred participants!
It is the nature of socially engaged art to present a project to a community while not knowing how it will be received or executed. It is an open question. The response to this project has exceeded our wildest expectations. Beyond the addition of a final show of all the fabric pages and a catalog book, each page is a gift to the community. They speak to the generosity, diversity, spirit, commitment and creativity of this community.
Diana Weymar has participated in community building textile projects in Victoria B.C., Maine, and Cyprus, Greece. She is preparing for a project in Zurich 2016 with Build Peace. She has shown her textile and sculptural work in galleries in British Columbia.
