The work of each of these artists has gone through multiple rebirths and transformations. The focus on materiality and the love for process takes the viewer on a journey through layers and surfaces. Each of these artists tells a complex story through the images and forms, drawing the viewer in through the labored layers, abstract in their own right.
These four mid-career artists come from backgrounds different from their work today and the footprint of their journeys through materials reflect in the process of the pieces in the show.
Mona Brody’s painting alchemy stems in the marriage of printmaking, papermaking, and chemistry of painting creating deep and everchanging surfaces.
Catherine LeCleire’s multidimensional, layered pieces both in meaning and their making, stem in traditional printmaking techniques.
Matt Nolen whose beautifully amorphous bodily porcelain shapes root in painting, tell stories using both painting and transfer techniques on the surfaces of his sculptures.
Donna Moran reinvents new pieces using mixed media, collaged pieces of traditionally made prints with subconscious reflections on the world events.
