22 Jan Hiring: Full-Time Custodian
Interviewing immediately:
Work in a dynamic, culturally rich arts organization in the heart of Princeton. The Arts Council of Princeton’s Custodian performs all janitorial services and light building maintenance, enforces practices that promote a clean and safe working environment, and helps with setup and takedown of all events. The Custodian reports to the Executive Director.
Regular Hours: A standard shift is Monday to Friday, 3pm – 11pm, however, weekend shifts are, on occasion, mandatory.
Start Date: Immediate
Specific responsibilities include:
- A significant portion of the workweek cleaning our public spaces, bathrooms, offices, classrooms, kitchen, etc.
- Clean windows, mop floors, vacuum, restock, refill, clean elevators, windowsills.
- Empty waste receptacles and transport contents to disposal containers
- Deep cleaning during semester breaks
- Exterior maintenance
- Terrace
- Roof
- Grounds
- Parking lot
- Light snow removal
- Light landscaping
- Trash collection
- Replace lighting
- Replace signage
- Put away deliveries, including clay and other supplies
- Organize janitor closet, tool room and supplies.
- Light maintenance including
- Repairing equipment
- Painting
- Spackling
- Light bulbs
- Upkeep of the gallery between exhibitions; spackling, painting, pedestal storage
- Work with Office Manager to order supplies for facilities, programs, and events
- Work with Office Manager to support Rental Events
- Set up chairs, tables, and deal with logistics for rentals and events
Custodian skills and qualifications
The Custodian uses many soft skills and industry knowledge, including:
- Ability to work flexible hours: weekend and night shifts are on occasion mandatory
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques and products
- Proficiency with repair tools and techniquesEffective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to speak with all levels of employees, guests, vendors, and team membersGreat time management, organization, and prioritization abilities
- Keen attention to detail and efficient problem-solving skillsAbility to lift heavy equipment and comfortable standing or walking for extended periods of timeAbility to climb stairs, ladders, shovel snow and work at heights and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions.
