April Arts 2022

April 1 - April 23
April Arts 2022: Thirty Days of Creativity

Welcome to April ARTS, a month-long celebration of art, culture, and the Princeton community held with support from Princeton University. Decentralized events – including the town’s inaugural Porchfest – afford Princeton the opportunity to once again embrace art and culture in a safe and deeply meaningful way.

All are invited to the April ARTS Kick-Off Happy Hour on April 1 at 5:30. We’ll gather for a live performance to launch the Princeton Piano Project, a series of seven pianos placed around town each painted by a local artist. The evening will conclude with a Prosecco toast (cider for those under 21!) to properly welcome the beginning of springtime and a month of arts engagement.

The festivities continue with an array of arts programming throughout the month, including our Cabernet Cabaret 10th Anniversary Extravaganza, the opening reception for artist Joe Kossow’s Still Lifes from a (Mostly) Stilled Life in our Taplin Gallery, Story & Verse: A Storytelling & Poetic Open Mic, and a spoken word celebration in honor of Paul Robeson’s 124th birthday.

April ARTS will culminate on Saturday, April 23 with the inaugural Princeton Porchfest from 12-6pm. PorchFest is a family-friendly event featuring musicians of all kinds playing free shows on porches throughout the neighborhood. Attendees are invited to stroll from porch to porch and relax on front lawns and sidewalks as they enjoy live, local talent. A Porchfest Guide will be available here on our website.

Gallery Opening: Making Do

May 3 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free
Join the Arts Council of Princeton for the Gallery Opening of Making Do. Free and open to all.
Each artist finds resonance in this stuff of life, from Shannon Curry Hartmann’s brooding pandemic era newspaper collages to Rachel Perry’s obsessive, beautiful and weirdly funny fruit sticker drawings. From Karla Carballar’s collection of fidgeting objects, arranged into a minimalist grid of maximal anxiety, to Heather Cox’s sculptural celebration of the snapshot era in all its mundane and yet somehow mysterious glory. Emna Zghal’s wood/print/collage conversations yield beautiful and haunting abstracted landscapes, and Mollie Murphy takes the small sculptures that emerge out of the stuff she scavenges and relocates them among wall hangings inspired by the original making- do mother-of-it-all: the hand made quilt.
Making Do is on view in the ACP’s Taplin Gallery from April 27 – May 24. An Artist Talk will take place Friday, May 17 at 6pm.
