Open Studio: ACP’s Original Podcast

Open Studio is a podcast from the Arts Council of Princeton spotlighting the creative minds shaping our cultural landscape. We sit down with artists, makers, and creative thinkers from our community to talk about the work they do and the ideas that inspire them.

Co-hosted by Adam Welch, Executive Director and the Director of Development and Community Engagement Liza Peck, Open Studio invites you into the stories behind the art.

The podcast was launched May 28th with it’s very first episode featuring singer, musician, and songwriter Chris Harford. Since then, three more episodes have been released featuring contemporary visual artist Ghada Amer, author and Princeton University music professor Elizabeth Margulis, and Casa Aziz Salon’s Creative Director Aziz El Badaoui.

We asked Liza to give us a bit of insight into the new podcast:

Why a podcast?

When we first started talking about a podcast, we weren’t thinking about creating another marketing tool – we were thinking about all the fascinating people who walk through the Arts Council’s doors every day. Artists, musicians, writers, educators, business owners, community leaders, and neighbors all have incredible stories to tell, and we wanted to create a platform where those stories could be shared. The podcast is a really great excuse to sit down with interesting members of our community and ask them questions we’ve always wanted to ask.

At its heart, Open Studio is really an extension of the Arts Council’s mission to build community through the arts. The podcast gives us an opportunity to slow down, have meaningful conversations, and celebrate the people who make Princeton such a vibrant and creative place.

How do you pick guests?

One of the most enjoyable parts of the process has been brainstorming guests. We’re not just looking for artists, we’re looking for people who are curious, passionate, and engaged in interesting work. Some guests have deep ties to the Arts Council, while others help us explore the many ways creativity intersects with history, science, culture, education, and everyday life.

Behind the scenes, putting together each episode is a true team effort. From identifying guests and developing questions to recording, editing, and publishing, every episode involves collaboration and a surprising amount of planning. But the goal is always the same: to create conversations that feel authentic, accessible, and enjoyable to listen to.

What can listeners expect in the future?

We’re excited to have launched our first three episodes and look forward to releasing a new conversation each month. Our hope is that listeners come away feeling inspired, learning something new, and perhaps discovering a connection to someone or something in our community they didn’t know before.
