Artists Bring History to Life at the Battlefield Plein Air Paint Out

The event held in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States invited artists of all skill levels to set up their easels throughout the park and capture the scenery, architecture, and atmosphere of the battlefield. Working outdoors and directly from observation, participants embraced the tradition of plein air painting, creating original works inspired by the site’s natural beauty and historical significance.

Throughout the day, visitors could explore the grounds, watch artists at work, and witness paintings come to life brushstroke by brushstroke. The event concluded with an open-air exhibition, offering a chance to view the freshly completed artwork and meet the artists behind it.

The Paint Out showcased a wide range of interpretations of the landscape, from sweeping vistas to detailed studies of historic structures. Together, the works highlighted the many ways artists can experience and interpret a shared place. We are grateful to everyone who participated and visited making the day a success. A special congratulations to our award winners: Colleen DelaneyAnna Dourbal, and Brian Stoj:

We loved seeing Princeton Battlefield through your eyes and look forward to future opportunities to create together.
