Tell us about yourself and your art!
I am a (nearly) lifelong resident of Princeton who developed an interest in art at a young age. I attended the University of Pennsylvania for my BFA and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts for my MFA. I have been teaching for 20 years in independent schools. While in university, I developed a strong passion for still life and landscape painting.
How did you become an artist/first get into art?
I have always loved to draw, paint, look at, and learn about art. My teachers at Community Park School and Princeton High School encouraged my love of art. I always knew that the arts were what I wanted to center my life around.
What inspires your artwork?
Over the past 25 years, my work has centered around still life and landscapes. I am intensely interested in the history of these genres and updating them to reflect contemporary subject matter and contexts.
What’s inspiring you these days?
In my latest work, I have been focusing on flowers/ plants from the lens of their symbolic and cultural significance.
Who are some of your favorite artists?
Willen Claesz, Jean-Baptiste Chardin, Paul Cezanne, Jasper Johns
